Impressive Timepiece - Bulova Lunar Pilot (96B251)

The more I wear the Lunar Pilot, the more impressed I am by this watch. From the reliable and robust chronograph function to the very accurate High Performance Quartz NP20 movement (3 pronged quartz crystal with a frequency of 262kHz), this watch is a joy to wear. In the 6 months I have been tracking its accuracy, this watch is only +/- 0.5 secs, if that.

- Case: 45.0mm wide; 15.0mm thick; 52.0mm lug to lug - black dial with 3 chronograph subdials and tachymeter internal bezel - Caliber: High Performance Quartz NP20 - date just; screw down case back; 50m WR

Love that watch! A real beauty!

When I read the title of your post my first thought was, “no shit.”

On further reflection, my first thought was accurate.

And the “baby” Lunar Pilot at a diminutive 43.5mm is equally terrific, especially in blue and white.

I know; they don’t sometimes call me captain obvious for nothing. Agreed that the new 43.5mm would be perfect, as the 45mm is tad larger than my sweet spot; that lug to lug is huge and definitely wears larger than it’s size, but I still love it.

Love mine too, check out my profile for the wrist shot, I'm on another device can't share the picture atm

I've been thinking about this same watch. How do you like the dimensions? What is your wrist size? Thanks

·

Yes, I agree they're a great watch. Big,but wears very well (my Mrs even nicks mine to wear occasionally!)

One of my all-time favorites! 🍻

Totally agree. Unless there's some engineering/movement-fitment hurdle that would be prohibitively expensive, or a concern over shorter battery life; I cannot understand why Bulova (and CITIZEN Group as a whole) won't put precisionist in normal sized, traditional-looking watches. The recent Bulova Jetstar would suggest it's possible, but who knows?

I for one, would be happy to have a stable full of good-looking, 38-40mm precisionist pieces if they offered them.

Agreed, it’s like it trying to be completely smooth but it’s not quite there. It’s still accurate as hell though.

It is special and kinda works with everything, casual, business dress, sport... Strap monster as well.

Hi, Sorry I wasn’t able to get back to you sooner.

I own the watch in both sizes and I am happy with both sizes. They are both big watches; it’s just that one is slightly less big than the other.

With my calipers, I measure the original to have a lug-to-lug of 53mm and the smaller to have a lug-to-lug of 51mm.

My wrist size is approximately 7 inches.

Here they are next to one another and you can see the size difference is clearly noticeable.

So, if you don’t mind a big watch, then get either one.

If your “not too big for me” size is 51mm or lower, then the smaller version should work for you.

I hope this helps.

It's still a fascinating timepiece to me and I persist on wearing it. I can still manage to pull it off on my Itty Bitty 6.5 inch wrist with a NATO or NASA Velcro.

Looks great

I have a Bulova 96B252; it is 43mm but you might want to give it a look. Watcheshalfprice on eBay is an enabler!
