Doesn't get the wrist time it deserves anymore:(

Having an emotional attachment to inanimate objects is  a curse, there's no worse feeling than to open your watchbox and seeing the one that was once your favorite just sit there and collect dust, I know I need to move from it but it's just too dang hard, when I bought it I was going through a watch-buying craze and hadn't really developed my taste and it was my birthday gift from myself to top it off, now this is too out there for me, way big, and will only wear it to the pool, which happens maybe 4 times a year, and even then it's 30 meter water resistance makes me re-consider because it's not going into the pool anyway.

I know what I must do but I don't know if I have the strength to do it. Have any one of you been in this dilemma? Or you don't get attached to stuff like I do?

Recently, the wife & I bought new silverware & got rid of the old; except one fork. Why? Because I bought that old set of silverware on my own when I got divorced. It was my first set of my very own silverware. I agreed to let the rest of the set go (already missing a couple pieces) if I could keep one fork.

So yes, I do get attached to stuff. We all do. It's just not the same stuff. One person's thing might be a watch, next guy's is a fork, next gal's is the sweater she wore on "THE DATE"; it might be anything.

That said, if the worst feeling is seeing it collect dust, then you definitely should move on from it, because you obviously aren't going to wear it frequently, so it will be just gathering dust.

That's true, even Andy gave woody away in toy story...3?

This might be a stupid idea but if the size is what's holding you back from wearing it mostly, maybe you could make it a project. You could transplant the dial and movement into a new smaller 38mm case. I have no idea if this would work but since they make a 38mm version with exactly the same dial I don't see why it wouldn't. If you don't really want to let go this might be cool.

This is a good analogy! If the watch will bring a lot more joy to another, then maybe it should be moved on.

The smaller ones they have are all quartz, that's a whole nother animal. Plus I've never done anything like that, might just be easier to trade for the smaller one xD

Yeah, just gotta work up the courage.

All the time. Got about 3 watches at any time and have been through ten times as many in the last 4 years. Math

·

yeah lose it

strictly because it's too big

if it fit well i'd tell you to keep it

but being such a fun piece (mr jones yes?) keep it strictly for the novelty

i've really not been any help

Im still sitting on a few watches that I bought before I really knew what style and type I wanted, but I still have some attachment to. My grandson loves watches so I will occasionally give him one from time to time. I've also given my son a few.

I have a hard time building up the energy to sell any, especially when I see all the potential scams that occur. Granted, none of them would net much money anyway.

Yeah, unfortunately I don't have anyone to pass it down to, and I could get $200 bucks for this best case scenario but it's not worth the hassle.

It doesn't need to be worn if it makes you feel good when you see it, if it reminds you of where you started, or a special experience, or even a mistake which can be the most valuable type of reminder.

True collectors aren't owners, they're stewards. We take care of objects that may have value to others in the future.

If someone could enjoy something that I have more than I do, that's a strong reason to move on from it, be it a cool car, a cool watch, a cool vintage jacket, whatever.

If you don't need the money and it isn't worth a lot, gifting it is the best option, there is always someone younger than you and with a lot less money that would be psyched to get a cool piece.

"Would I really care if I never saw this again? did I already get all the joy or experience I am going to get out of this" if the answer leans more towards yes, get rid of it, it's taking up too much time in your head and that's the most valuable time there is.

It's not a 1 of 1, you'll always have the ability to buy it back, but you know you never will so set it off on it's next journey. There's a wrist out there that would be thrilled to show it off.
