hi watchcrunch, how is it going? let share something fun today. what do you guys think for the typical grail watch from older generation? as from my experience at least in my country (indonesia) the most popular model for the older generation (60-70 years old) usually two tone datejust gold, black or white dial. i seen many of my client wear one of those ๐. i think this is the default grail watch from that generation at least in my country. personally i think it is a elegant piece and sure the gold accent give some luxury element in it. so what do you guys think? what's the most popular grail watch in your area based on your experience?

I'm in the age range just below this and even for me, a Rolex was a bit of a Grail while I was an uninformed watch enthusiast. Even now, after gaining a bit of horological knowledge, were I gifted one, I'd enjoy it, right before I sold it.ย

I didn't. Just saying if I received one I would.ย
Prices they are going for are insane and would pay for a bathroom remodel.ย
The long (almost) forgotten Franck Muller, precursor to Richard Mille of sorts.

it is a classic version of richard mille ๐. i never seen one before
I'd have to assume that Rolex is the definitive "I've made it" watch for most people, and the Datejust is a nice optimization of price and being recognizable enough. ย So are you positing that the market will be flooded with these pre-owned watches as Boomers go to the grave? Not to be morbid, but I wouldn't mind an oversupply price correction on these.

They were quite prominent in the 90s/early 00s, the brand shot itself in the foot by going quartz and ETAs when their tag line was "Master of Complications," and charging quite exhorbitant amounts of money for it.ย
As far as I know, Franck Muller, the watchmaker, is a great watch maker worthy of the title.ย

thats the word im looking for, "i've made it" watch. also a few years ago you can practically buy datejust at any rolex boutique without waiting list. but nowadays it seems like there is a waiting list for datejust too ๐
