When mods go wrong!

Quite a few modders here on WatchCrunch and I'm sure we've all had at least one "Doh" moment.

Mines was when installing a not so cheap new dial to a NH35 build. Was taking my time and trying to be so careful. Snipped the extra legs off the dial and carefully filed them down. Positioned the dial on the movement, it was all going so well...

Then realised once I had it all back in the case that I had lined the date window up with the crown, forgetting that the crown was positioned at 4 not 3!

So, what's your worst modding moment?

I once put a small scratch on the back of a lug during a particularly ornery bracelet change.

That's the extent of my modding experience.

Exactly the same as yourself but opposite I wanted my crown at 3 o clock but pins I didn’t snip off put it sa 4 🤬

Had a very tight-fitting movement holder. Inserted the movement by gently slipped it over the back of the movement with some tension.

It came undone somewhere, and the movement holder launched to movement across my desk.

The movement is still around for parts.

Tried a crystal swap on my orient mako (the one with date pusher) and snapped the date pusher stem 🥲

Trying to put a hand back into place for my bosses watch. Ended up changing out the moemvemt all together as it was old and can use a replacement. All ended up well at the end of the day

Awsome post.

Thank you for sharing with us

Keep up the good work.

Ouch that literally made me cringe in horror!

I can relate. Accidently snagged the balance spring on a vintage watch. Just wsn't paying attention and minute slip later and it was junk. Fortunately watch was mine and had little value.

I used to build Airfix model aircraft as a kid and built some pretty complex models . Doing this has taken the curiosity of tinkering with watches away , because of how bloody time consuming I know it would be 🙂 no curiosity left over 🙂 . I am fascinated with watching other people on YouTube do it though !
