I’m in a conundrum

23 March 2022, YouTube Suggests a video by @AdrianBarker entitled ”Is Omega ok? Omega x Swatch speedmaster moonswatch I thought all my Christmases came at once, but then I realised they were only being sold in swatch stores, and as I live in a country without any I had to ask a relative living in London if they could get one for me.

This is the very photo they sent to me.

It was at this point I realised I would be lucky to ever get a moonswatch. Several foreign holidays have came and went where I ventured into a swatch store hoping to find one, however I was always greeted with “Sorry we have none in stock”.

My last post was a poll where I asked your help to choose my watch for a city break you‘s chose the Casio Oceanus which has performed flawlessly (possibly the perfect watch)! The city I went to is Edinburgh and I’m staying close enough to the swatch store which sells the monnswatches. I was more focused on looking for a seiko however it was pointed out to me where the swatch store was so I thought “if you don’t ask you don’t get”.

I walked into the store and asked the very helpful sales lady had they any in stock. I was shocked to hear they had, I quickly asked which one. It’s important to note that most of my watches are really plain and simple so I wasn’t really looking for one of the bright colourways, it was either the Moon or the Pluto for me. And by chance they actually had the Pluto so I asked could I look at it. I tried it on as well as the mars which is really cool. I purchased the pluto, I knew when I was buying it that it was overpriced and cheaply made, really I recently purchased a Casio MRW-200H which is better made than it. But I thought it would be fun and there was definitely a bit of FOMO involved.

Across the road from the swatch store in Edinburgh is Chisholm Hunter (a jewellers which sells everything from seiko to breguet). The sales people were lovely however they didn’t have the manta ray turtle I was looking for. The sales man saw the swatch bag and eagerly asked if it was a moonswatch I got. I told him it was and he said that the day they were released they had them in their stock room and not swatch.

Upon arrival back at the hotel room, I took it out of the box and had a good look at the features and the design however after using the chrono a few times the chrono hand misaligned. I have heard this happening to a few but there is a very good YouTube video on how to rectify the issue. Even though I got it back it’s still a bit of.

I have a bit of OCD when it comes to things like that so to look down and see that is painful.

So my question to you is what should I do should I take it back and ask for a full refund or should I exchange it for another one or should I sell it to someone who is lining up to get one.

Thanks for reading this I know it’s very long but any ideas would be greatly appreciate.

 Thanks

I’d say return it for a full refund. I’ve heard of other quality issues such as Adrian Barker’s chronograph button falling off so I think the line as a whole probably has problems. I also think the shine’s beginning to wear off on the Moonswatch and while I think you could probably flip it, it might take a while to find a buyer.
Good luck with whichever way you go and keep us updated.

I’d be returning it too. Exactly why you have a warranty.

Yeap - push it back to them and ask for a new one under warranty or a refund  - it's not like they can argue the point, the issue is highly visible :D

As availability is better now, it will be harder to sell on, and harder still with a misaligned seconds hand......

Returned it for a replacement.

Am I mistaken (wouldn't be the first time) you can re-align the chrono hand by pulling out the crown to the second position (setting time) and pressing the bottom pusher until it aligns with 12... Or am I making it up? Sure I read it somewhere.

Yes your correct however it only goes in second increments so can’t get it bang on.

Is there a reason the movement, complete with dial and hands, couldn't just be removed from case so hand could be manually nudged? This whole procedure would take a couple minutes.

As with most swatches the cases are sealed only leaving a gap for the battery.

Every story needs and ending so here we go. I returned the watch for a replacement the second hand was better but not perfect at the end of the day I couldn’t justify that amount of money for a plastic watch so I took @Matt84’s advice and returned it for a full refund.

Thanks for all the advice you’s have given me.

In that case yeah, it would do my head in as well! 😋
