Just reserved my first Grand Seiko
TLDR: I made a reservation for a 9F quartz SBGX261. It should arrive in 3 weeks. HELL YEAH!! 😹
At the end of the year I will turn 60. So I decided to treat myself with something extra. This will be my first "entry level luxury" watch. Big thing for me.
The months spent reading and watching videos on watches ended with a very short list: either a 9F Grand Seiko or a The Citizen ecodrive with washi paper dial (AQ4030, 4091, ...).
I turned to the Grand Seiko because there is an AD in my city, so I can have the whole luxury watch purchase experience for once.
I anticipated the purchase because of the insisting voices that the line has been / will be discontinued soon.
This morning I went to the AD unannounced. The place is small, it is a long time established watch seller in the hearth of Milan city center. They started small and to date they have only two windows facing the street.
The guard at the entrance let me in and I found to be the sole customer at the moment.
I asked about the SBGX261 and it was sold out, but the seller quickly contacted the GS distributor and told me there were examples available. I overheard that "for the moment" there is no scarcity in Italy.
We agreed on a price below retail and then the guy handed me a Mount Iwate Autumn Dusk and a loupe to appreciate the amazing dial and beveled hands. It is a 400 pieces limited Europe only edition. The dial is a beautiful green and grey. Beautiful and quite expensive.
To not send me home empty handed, the dealer gave me a GS pin (in the black box of the first picture).
After leaving the place, I walked to various watch boutiques to do some watch spotting and calm me down 😅
FOMO is a thing, but my choice was made since a few months. Now the most difficult part will be after my example will arrive. After verifying that everything is in order, the plan is to wait for my birthday. I hope to be strong enough.

I've just ordered the same watch from my AD here in the US. I was told it will be in 2-3 weeks. This is also my first luxury purchase. Congrats on 60 sir!

Like you, I’ve been a little anxious that the 261 has been discontinued. It didn’t help that the store near me was out of stock for 2 months.
I just got a call back that the store near me recently restocked so I am taking another look at it this weekend. It’s my dream watch and like you will be my first luxury purchase. I am the bloke who drinks instant coffee, so even this one is off-brand for me but the simplicity of this GS caught my eye 🤷🏻😂.

Indeed, +/- 10 sec year gives peace of mind.
I already have a Bulova precisionist that is running at about -17 seconds per year, good enough for me to set it at DST changes.
To be fair, GS is not the accuracy record holder, Citizen has a better movement.

In my view, though, #grandseiko makes nicer ⌚.

I love my hometown. It took centuries to build that cathedral and a decade to clean the smog off the marble. I feel proud when I see visitors from all over the world lining up to visit.
