Depends on your location relative to Ft. Collins, CO. I'm in North Carolina and my Multiband 6 GW6900 will autoset only when it sits overnight in a specific room in my house. Also, the weather can really screw with the radio reception as well. Overall, I say go for it.

But what if you went abroad with no radio reception and you can't adjust the hands.

The Multiband 6 that G-Shocks use covers six radio towers throughout the world. Most likely anywhere you travel will have reception for one of those, except Australia, which doesn't have an atomic clock that constantly transmit time signals.

Suppose you went to Egypt for arguments sake and had to change the hands. Could you do it?
That is the price being offered right now, I think I paid even less for mine (about $650). My local AD was looking to unload it.
Cool,I'm not in the market for a GPS watch though. I've been listening to the mad watch collector on YouTube. He recommends trying the watch on before you buy. Seems sensible. What do you think?

Completely agree with that statement.
I guess all I was trying to say is that you can get that GPS tech in a reasonably priced watch if you look around. The Citizen technology is just a touch better than Seiko, but I still have both in my collection.
I'm new to this... Are the multiband 6 and wave cepter same thing or are they different?
They are different but the same, if that makes any sense. Wave Ceptor is the atomic technology used by Casio for the Fort Collins, CO, Naval Observatory atomic signal. It only works in the U.S. Multi Band 6 works with all the atomic time transmitters throughout the world. There are different frequencies for each tower that transmits, so Multi Band would be more useful for someone who travels.
TRUE! I guess nothing in life apart from a shuttle launch needs to be at an accurate time. It’s the watch I use to set whatever mechanical watch I choose to put on for the day;)
Well, maybe your trains in your part of the world might need to be. I'm envious of the UKs public transportation.
I can't get the hang of this watch crunch website. I don't know if I've replied to you before. I can't understand why anyone would still use mechanical, it's obsolete.
A romantic idea. Part of it is the craftsmanship that goes into such a timepiece.

And, if cared for, will last lifetimes, plural. You can pass it down. What I'd give to find my father's watch.
Reading all the comments, I realised. We all use smart or a feature phones which tells us accurate time. People nowadays are not wearing mechanical / Quartz watches to tell accurate time (my opinion), we wear it coz we love them, cherish them. Instead of buying any watch just for the sake of having GPS or Multi-Band feature, I would rather use that money to buy or save up to buy the a watch I love. I used to think i want one GPS/Radio controlled watch in my collection, but now I don't feel like it.
If the watch I like has that feature, great. But won't buy a watch just coz it has that feature.
I'm agreeing with you. There are so many ways nowadays of getting the exact time; it makes a radio controlled watch obsolete. Ultimately the watch should be something you like the look and feel of.

I have a Casio Wave Cepter with Multiband 6, and it is definitely not a gimmick. It is bitchin’.
I've got a Wave Cepter as well and a G-Shock with Multiband 6. It's great and what I used to set all my other watches to.

A wave captor has been on my radar. Thanks

Cool. I wonder what happens if you out of radio range

Had one... Pretty cool thing.
Grab 'n go watch

You can always set it manually like a regular digital quartz watch.

Okay I'll take your word for it. Even though on the lineage there's no dial
I've got one but I never use it since my computers and phone are equally as accurate.
That's exactly what I was thinking
Hence the initial comment on it being a gimmick

You have more than one watch ; you are fortunate.
Overall it’s been great. It’s not really so much a gimmick as it is dated tech but it works none the less and is convenient in most places

Yes, absolutely; it's dated tech.
Not a gimmick. I use mine to set all the other pieces in my collection.

fair enough. I suppose it can be useful if you have no wifi, tv or a computer.

Yes, I also wear it.
That is cool. It's a waste of money if you buy a watch and don't wear it. Imho.
