Collecting Themes

I’ve noticed a few types of collectors on here. Curious to see how this goes. Which type are you? They only allow up to 4 choices, so I’m splitting it into two posts of 3. Hoarder- You have multiple watch boxes. Sorted by brand or purpose. It appears your goal is to just own all the watches, ever. Fashion Guru- You collect specific watches to coordinate with your wardrobe. History and Entertainment - a Moon watch or two, a Murph, a Willard, the 1963 Your watches have gone places and done things.

My hoarding predates watches but they are sooooo much easier to store than a lot of the crap I've collected over the years such as mid-century furniture and classic cars. Fingers crossed that 2024 finds me cooling my jets.

Collecting furniture sounds rough, of course I’m picturing someone coming home with their 17th credenza…

I feel a collection needs a purpose, a direction. Fine crafted works of art. I have a gathering which translates to a hoard.

That I share with my horde.

Your jets? Have you hoarded them as well? Do you live in the Mojave Desert by any chance?

Very astute. I do have additional homes in the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts. When not at home in Los Angeles I often explore the desert using those other properties as a jumping off point.

I was just thinking of the aircraft cemeteries in your area and am amazed that my half joke, half educated guess turned out to be correct.

Me too! I sent this Mustang to a buyer in Belgium and sold the Willys Jeep to a friend in my off-road group.

Hoping to get rid of more stuff over the next few years and perhaps reward myself with a watch or two.

I also have one of the largest collections of California history books outside of an institutional library that I need to find a good home for. Nobody reads books anymore!

Very nice Sir! That Willys had to be a trip to drive 😁

My buddy is an Antique dealer in Upstate NY…it’s amazing the stuff that used to be so sought after and suddenly has no value with technology

The old Jeeps are amazingly robust! The driver is usually the weak point.
