The Bulova Precisionist is the king of the quartz sweeping seconds, IMHO. Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of the styling of the product, I respect the movement though.
Looks nice. The name is very long and doesn't sound very well thought out.
I anyways need digital so I don't care much if it sweeps or peeps of fleeps.

So exactly why is this Seiko VH31 not more commonly used? Do they just not crank them out like the NH35? And what are the other mass-manufactured (ahem, affordable) movements like this today?

I'm just saying there's a reason why it's called "Seiko" and not "This is Seiko - A company by John Seiko."
Agree with @SurferJohn , I have an Accutron II in my collection for it’s history, movement and cool smooth second hand. Style and finish limit it’s wrist time though.
I have my eye on these watches with the green turtle initiative… i think the design is great and mission to save baby turtle is cool. Oh and of course…the sweeping hnd quartz is awesome. No need to buy automatic anymore …perhaps?

I owned one of these, the chronograph running seconds sweeps, the running seconds in the sundial does not. I thought that was a ripoff.
