I don’t get it.

A plastic watch with a movement made for people nostalgic for pin-levers and it’s $400 because of the name?

I think it's more interesting than the MoonSwatch but still not on the list

·

I'ma 100% don't get-won't get!! Figured I'd just throw that down because I KNOW the DRAMA from the DRA-MAMAS is going to be hight blood pressure for some and "for god sakes no more" for others.

I can't really blame Swatch Group for trying this after the success of the moonswatch. Swatch is going to keep doing these collaborations until they are no longer profitable. It's like why there are so many Predator and Alien movies even though they haven't been good since the first ones (or the second one in the case of Alien). Swatch isn't going to leave any money on the table.

Ahem, bioceramic. Otherwise, you've got it perfectly.

·

Of course, biceramic. The Gray Poupon of plastic.

I don’t blame them for making it. Hell, I wish I could do the same.

Buy what you like 🤙

Buy what you like 🤙

I do. I also wonder aloud why other people buy what they do.

Funny, they are promoting this watch as environmentally conscious with the case material made of repurposed fishing nets and they are selling us a plastic watch with a movement (System 51) that is known to be issue prone, at best the user will get 3 years out of it and then he or she will throw it away.

Yes! The cynicism is staggering.

·

I just think it’s all in good fun. As long as you know what you’re getting, what’s the harm?

·

I love the way Swatch creates a fake exclusivity through their restrictive availability.

Reminds me of another Swiss brand…

·

That may very well be the best reason to buy anything.

Surely there must already be an Ali Express rip off of the Fifty Fathoms out there

There could be but Pagani does better quality. There are only a few Ali brands worth buying from like Pagani, San Martin and Steel Dive. Avoid Winner, Forstner and Benyar as the quality is poor though they look pretty.

If you don't get it then don't get it.

Sage advice.

It’s a marketing exercise, just as the MoonSwatch was, meant to introduce a whole new demographic to brands in the Swatch group, as well as get them slowly comfortable paying more for a watch then they normally would. They’re riding hype, hence their marketing in HypeBeast, along with limited edition sneakers, etc. Judging from the success of the MoonSwatch, it was a good strategy (though they went too far with the continued editions of the MS in my opinion).

This 💯. Looked into System 51 and that’s the only reason I won’t be getting the gorgeous white.

Except the other brand doesn’t restrict availability, that’s a myth — demand outstrips supply + the gray market exists. You aren’t restricting availability when you more than double the output and sales of several of your competitors combined.

Not my cup of tea, I pass on the first release and not interested on these, money grab for sure and I don't blame swatch one bit as the first release OnegaX sold with zero effort. I know a guy who seriously collected all the OnegaXSwatch but he has no other experience in watches but a few Casio, I don't get it I really don't why? Watches is a journey in which we grow into our next timepiece. I guess that individual got caught up in the hype.

·

All black will be available 1 year from now....

·

Maybe it’s not for you.

·

I really like the Fifty Fathoms but I doubt I’ll ever buy one. Size and price (deemed value) are my issues. This might scratch an itch.

So sixty percent plastic then?

·

I keep hearing Oh you bought an Apple watch for the name, you bought for the name! My Ultra is titanium and sapphire. This is plastic crap. Plastic crap people bought for the name.

That's the point...under £400!!! For a Swiss automatic with Blancpain on the dial. Yes it's a disposable, but for less than the price of a Seiko. It's a great idea to take sales from the dodgy clomage sellers & introduces the younger generation to a very prestigious brand for a pittance.

However, the selling method is really shite & probably going to alienate more of us than it'll win fans. 🤷🏼‍♂️

My "clomage"....... all three have steel cases, sapphire crystals and Seiko movements. Its NOT a prestigious brand, its a cynical attempt to sell plastic crap to the kind of idiots who buy "Supreme" branded sweatshirts. And for all the "Oh not a homage, I must clutch my pearls" people here, this is a cynical homage that literally preys on name snobbery, and you all fell for it. At least I don't pretend mine are the real thing.

I've been into watches since the late 1980's, so to an extent it's "been there, done that" . I've nowt against folks having "clomages " if that makes you happy then go for it.

I doubt I'll get a Swatch X Blancpain because of the faff to get one, but if I do I'm fully aware it's just a cheap plastic watch - it's just a bit of fun, that's all.

Plus I'd rather spend my money with the Swatch group (Omega fanboy) .

To each their own, they're only watches after all.

Cheers mate 🖖🏻

Sounds plausible.
