Total Noob Question About the Pelagos

What's the difference between the Pelagos and the Black Bay? All I know is they're both Tudor, and they're both dive watches. What sets them apart? Why is one better or worse than the other? Why is the new Pelagos getting so much attention when the Black Bay was already a big deal recently? I'm just curious, and this seems like one of those questions people would avoid asking to not sound stupid, so maybe I'm not the only one wondering here.

For the 39 version they have slightly different movements, the Pelagos uses a titanium cases and different markers.  When you get up to the original Pelagos vs. Black Bay, you’re talking a ton of differences including what I mentioned above, but the Pelagos has a much stronger water resistances and a helium escape valve. Neither is better than the other except when it comes to water resistance. After that it is personal preference.  Why is it a big deal all the sudden? Since the launch of the original Pelagos, fans have been wanting a smaller case, now they have one.

Also I’m not an expert but the Pelagos is a Titanium watch and I don’t think the BB is. This woul be a big deal for me as I’m a huge fan of Titanium but there are plenty who feel differently.

I was close to buying a navy bb58 but so glad I waited Because now I want the Pelagos 39.

Whats the main difference for me? The styling.
None of the other differences i.e. Water resistance/ case material/ movement/price etc matter or affect how and when I will wear the watch.

Pelagos is Titanium and , until the 39mm came out,  all tool = No polishing, water resistance rating 500m, mat finish,  helium escape valve,  cool expanding clasp for wetsuit etc. There is a French Navy variant- blue dial, 200m water resistance,  on NATO , that's still all tool. The new 39mm is more of an everyday lifestyle watch = 200m water resistance,  polish, sunburst dial Very Beautiful !

The BB58 is an incredible steel diver. This watch IMO was the 1st breakout piece for Tudor in their new/modern lineup. Style, looks, Value and now it's own rep/street cred as a watch, the BB58 has been a big deal for a while. The new Pelagos,  and Ranger,  are newer releases. My hope is that we see a cool update to the BB58. Again IMO, you can't go wrong with either choice for a diver

The 58 takes a lot of vintage ques of the 58 large crown. it is a fashion forward tool watch that instagram drive to ground. Saying that I own a 58 black and love it. the standard Pelagos is and always has been since 2012 tudors true tool offering. Abet a date function which honestly never made since and I own a LHD great watch. My favorite hands down is the Fxd which as stated is pure specialty driven for specific mil divers needs and is as specific a tool watch As they make. The 39 is an interesting beast to me part tool part modern luxury watch part fashion. I need to see one to make a final assessment l but I love the idea.
