Especially with leather straps that second pass can make your watch wear very high, and adds a lot of bulk. Do you like it like that, deal with it grudgingly, or make happy with the scissors?
Hmmm well my true answer is it depends. If it’s for a rather thick dive watch and it’s a strap I know I will mostly use on a thiq boi, I will not hesitate to cut it. HOWEVER I do really like the look of the nato with all the hardware. So if it’s a slimmer watch, maybe skin diver, field watch, I will keep the shmall flappy strap to keep the look!
I have one leather NATO that came with my Timex and they just belong together that way. When time comes, I'll replace it with with a two-piece leather, though.
For fabric NATO's, I keep the loops as well. Not for the bulk, but for the visual balance the keeper provides on the other side.
Same goes for Zulu straps: If the hardware is prominent, I tend to keep the bottom loop to balance it.
So far I've only cut my Vostok Zulu, because the extra rings were unusable for their indended purpose and made noise.
Tbh I kinda dig the tucked back end look, I cut some of them because the strap is way too long which means the tuck will be too long, but mostly I keep the second pass
I Sometimes do or go fishing through what I have in the drawer. But in this case the hardware is matched really well with the case and has a signed buckle. So it was cutty cut time.
I don‘t have any leather NATOs, only nylon ones, so it isn’t really a big deal for me, cause they‘re pretty thin.
Plus, I think the added thickness gives the watch a different feel to it, so… I Love the bulk!

Sacreligeous!!
Love a NATO, but must be mil-spec for me, IE sewn in buckle. That's critical or it's not a NATO,it's a cloth strap. ....😜🖖🏻
Have never cut the part off. Don’t mind the bulk personally
No to leather and no to snipping. I don't like the bulk so I only wear NATOs with smaller watches.

Or just buy a single pass or perlon strap.

Nope.
If the "bulk" bothers you there are other options (nylon pass through, 2 pc. nylon). Circumcision not necessary.
Yup, if it doesn't come in a single pass variant, I make it so. Regardless of material.
Trauma Shears, and a lighter are always on standby lol.
