Crown engagement - Seiko

Hi all,

I have just purchased an SPB143 which I am over the moon with.

One thing is bugging me however and that is the crown action. It seems to take a few attempts to engage it for screwing it back down, without it feeling like im damaging the threads (i.e., lots of effort). It does eventually get there but its a lot of messing around.

I have flossed the open thread to make sure there is no debris there, and I am very, very careful with it so im sure I havent damaged it, its always been like it, but I put it down to a new watch and me getting used to it.

Am I likely to have a problem with it? Should I send it to Seiko to sort/test? This is only my second automatic, so may be a normal thing, may be a Seiko thing?

Thanks.

If it’s not too much trouble to send it back, or even better take it back in person, I’d try and return it. Worse thing they could say is that it’s normal but at least you’d know. If you bought it from somewhere with a no quibble returns guarantee just ask straight up for a refund and order a replacement rather than go through the hassle of a repair, if one was needed.

I recently got a Willard and it does the same thing, (my pelagos also does it) I’m putting it down to the watch being new or maybe thats just the way the threads are. I turn the watch upside down and it usually screws in first time then.

Let me ck mine later, if it does the same thing…

This is what I do with all my screw down crowns.  Apply slight inward pressure (as you normally would) and rotate the crown counter-clockwise until you feel the threads "slip off" each other, it will feel like a small click.  Maintain the inward pressure and start rotating the crown clockwise. This helps me get threaded correctly every time.

I was going to suggest the same thing. I tend to do this when dealing with any kind of threaded bolt (especially small or fiddly ones) to avoid threading problems.

I do do this, but it almost seems that 2 out of 3 times it feels off and I daren't try any more!

Ive had more success winding it and gradually pushing the crown in.

Ok just ck mine and it goes in smoothly so yeah you might want to have your Ad ck it
