This is what I do with all my screw down crowns.  Apply slight inward pressure (as you normally would) and rotate the crown counter-clockwise until you feel the threads "slip off" each other, it will feel like a small click.  Maintain the inward pressure and start rotating the crown clockwise. This helps me get threaded correctly every time.
