This is a watch I've been looking forward to getting in my hands and the wait was well worth it. While the Suwa 6139/6138 chronographs are well known to Seiko fans, the 7017 series of flyback chronographs from in house rival Daini are much more obscure. Consisting of just a relative handful of distinct JDM only references, they were only manufactured from 1970-1972 before discontinuation, including the one I just received today.
There aren't many of these floating around so I'm stoked that I was able to grab this one in near pristine cosmetic condition and functioning flawlessly after a recent service. The original bracelet was not included unfortunately, but I reckon that this chocolate brown rally strap (with speed and agility boosting holes!) suits it well.
Now, some of you may be wondering how useful a 60 second chronograph is without minute or hour sub dials to total elapsed time. Me too! I suppose it's debatable. It sure looks cool though doesn't it? I really dig the retro style professional tool watch vibe this watch has with it's high contrast, easily legible dial and inner rotating bezel. Normally I rotate through my watches pretty regularly, but I think this will be my daily driver for the next few days.
I've got one more vintage Seiko 5 coming down the pipe eventually. Stay tuned!

Hottttt!
It's a watch for drag racing, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Also good for timing flip cup relay world records.
Great looking watch, wish I could find one too.
Like it a lot!
absolutely beautiful! Can I ask where you picked it up from? I'm always looking for reliable vintage Seiko dealers.
Man, I'm so amazed where you get all your vintage Seikos! Point me in that direction please. :)

And it does have flyback capability so that helps too! Really neat to see in action.

Patience is key with these sorts of things. I've been on the lookout for a good 7017 for at least a couple years before deciding to pounce on this one.

Thanks! I got it from a Turkish dealer called Turgay's Watches. They're listings can also be found on Chrono24.

I got this one from a professional seller based in Turkey, of all places. They've got a pretty nice vintage selection though. I'm impressed with their quality and speed of delivery based on this purchase and I think I'd buy from them again if they were to put anything else up for sale that catches my eye.

It's a rare reissue of a pretty cool vintage Seiko reference. That's about the price that I've seen them going for elsewhere.
Got my 1970 Speedtimer coming next week !
