Flunced,stalked and (Un)done

OK now let's make this clear up to this point I've had no interest in chrono's, none at all. I appreciate them, speedy's are cool looking, love the engineering of them and appreciate that they are complicated beautiful things. But have never been my 'thing'.

I've been on a buying stop, want to save up for a special, had big bills and basically might have too many watches if that's a thing (I've heard whispers of it, and it's rumoured to be contagious when conversing with others on forums).

So no buying watches, but I have been buying straps n bracelets so always tracking stuff on the bay. Well one day an absolute gorgeous Mondia chrono popped up and it was ❤❤, not a really old one,in fact I couldn't get an age on it,just listed as vintage, but it was silver, silver faced, stunning. Powered by a Valjoux7750 so a nice watch. But it had a problem with the day/date, now after some research (Google) it turns out it is a known problem with them. And as it wasn't cheap cheap, a problem with it and we'll, it's nice but not nearly £400 and maybe £000 for fix, gorgeous but not gorgeous enough, so wisely I left it.

Now a couple of days later whilst looking at facey/Meta, think it was to see if the temporary traffic lights at the top of town had broken down again up popped an advert for the Undone Killy, mmm that's nice, just click in to it, ok not bad move on.

Or not, now the AI and algorithms had noticed me and scented a sale, and like a rhino in the 1930s with a party of royals wearing pith helmets and big guns the hunt was on.

Went on amazon to buy a gazebo, suggested for you section a seagull 1963, ebay the random section half a dozen chrono's,Google search, chrono's popping up all over the place like weeds in your lawn, meta went for the kill every 2nd ad chrono's chrono's chrono's, u tube got in the act then, want to watch a watchy video, oh yes a chrono. Yes they'd sent the electronic hounds after me big time. It came to a head last week when using u tube for a bit of down time 'just one more watch' did one on the seagull 1963. AAARGH!! had enough, let's try a peice from our very own Max,safe ground so I thought and the peice was...the why not to buy a moonswatch, great stuff an anti chrono tube, No I was wrong don't buy a chrono, buy another chrono(seagull 1963) even our very own Max is in on it. And then this arrived

Image

From another watch related enterprise. That's it, I'm caught,my head is now metaphorically on Prince Phillips wall, the eye's of the AI have me in the crosshairs and have pulled the trigger. I'LL BUY ONE OF YOUR DAMNED THINGS!!!. But what??

Well I've got 2 choices

Image

Or this

Image

So let's have a think. The Undone, a modern vintage looking reinterpretation with seiko meca quartz internals or the Seagull 1963, a 'proper' mechanical timepiece with history and let's say a lot more kudos in the watch world. The plus with the Undone, it's modern seiko movement is reliable, it's minus is, it's just a brand, no history and being electronically powered maybe not the 'real deal'. The Seagull 1963, its got heritage,'proper' movement (you can hear it ticking, and see the movement working, which is always fascinating) the minus is they have QC issues, get a good one top drawer,a bad one well it's just junk. So after some careful deliberations (10 minutes) I pulled the trigger and got me an Undone Killy, why?? Well it came down to the fact I think the Killy looks better, the handset and the face, just is more than the Seagull, looks a bit more plush and less utilitarian. I know you purists are now gnashing your teeth and beating your fists against the walls and I get that,it was so close though, proper vintage vs pseudo vintage. Let's have a look at the watch..

Image

Love the handset, the blue when it catches the light is something and the dial is very well done, plenty going on but not too much and a lovely colour.

Image

And with me being absolutely nuts about straps

Image
Image

It's a damn versatile strap wise watch

Image

The obligatory pocket shot(badly done)

And a grey leather nato for a more contemporary look.

A really nice looking watch, vintage looking and non of the hassles of owning a real vintage watch, loves straps, accurate and (hopefully) reliable. Great for someone who wants to dip their toe's in the water of owning a vintage or modern chrono for not much money and modern reliability. A few specs for you to chew over 40mm diameter,20mm lugs,47mm lug2lug,12.7mm thick, seiko meca quartz movement, 30m WR(don't get wet) and K1 hardened glass.

Overall a nice package, and I like it. Should I have gone for the real thing, well maybe. And maybe one day I'll do it,but as a first foray into chrono's it's a sensible choice, probably the easy one and not the 'proper' one,but I'll enjoy this watch, the strap options and the no hassle of a modern movement.

As for Flunced, well it's my abbreviation of influenced, and I was, bombarded from all sides the hive mind stalked me and won. So be careful my fellow crunchers is could be you next. But there's steps we can all take..

Get rid of these, and..

Image

Me n him have made these special hats(as all the best conspiracy nuts do)and are now going to sit under the stairs eating turnips(it's a thing now in the UK, no tomatoes or peppers and a politician said to do so). Have a good weekend all.

You bought the better looking watch.

AI will make your next choice for you. Just get your credit card ready.

Looks good on you, think you made the right choice over the mechanical mvt. And I own a Seagull 1963.

However do you have anything (img, content..) supporting your like a rhino in the 1930s with a party of royals wearing pith helmets and big guns statement? Im intrigued :D

·

@Stricko it not a bad looking watch, but I couldn't bring myself to buy from undone. Or from the Chinese firm.

Did you get your orange diver though?

Not saying 'this' is a royal but that's what they did in the old days,go somewhere hot sunny and hunt (now endangered but not then) animals.

That is certainly very orange 🍊 I love it. It looks like it might trigger a few people , but It's a nice summer watch. Great case shape and nice curved lugs I really like it.

I did a write up on it on here, have a look. It's great with straps and the case is a work of art.
