State of the Collection 2022

Here’s my collection so far:

  1. Casio Databank Calculator Watch
  2. Nodus Phantom Sector Pilot
  3. Speedmaster 3861
  4. Doxa Sub 300T Caribbean
  5. Timex Marlin
  6. Seiko 5
  7. Longines (unsure of model) dated from 1954
  8. Waltham (unsure of model) dated from 1918
  9. Exaequo Softwatch Salvador Dalí (example in the link. And thanks to @M.addd for helping me identify it) Further update, found this video on YouTube thanks to @Olivier with a complete history of this watch.

Thinking about what to add next. Probably something rugged like a Seiko 6105 Willard or Spb153 reissue or, if I can get my hands on it, a Tornek Rayville TR 660. What do you suggest?

Drooling at number 9. Its an Exaequo Softwatch. Its worth at least 4 banks nowadays no thanks to turtleneck’d youtuber overhyping this up as an alternative to a Cartier crash 🤷🏻‍♂️

Nice collection. Personally I enjoy your Waltham, Speedy & Doxa best! I respect the variety of pieces here. I enjoy a hodge podge of styles myself though I often favor vintage pieces based on their rarer style and understated proportions. Cheers ✨⏱✨

And a few people buying up a lot of what was on the market and now selling them for exorbitant amounts of money. It's an awesome watch and looks super fun, but not worth what they are selling for in my opinion. I'd still love to have one.

This is a really nice and diverse collection.

Thank you for sharing. Those three are my favorite as well! What are some your favorite vintage pieces in your collection?

wow! Thanks for the info! You know, this was one of the watches that my father-in-law came across many years ago. This, along with the Waltham and the Longines came from him. He had a really great eye. I didn't even know what it was. This is a quartz movement I think it is from the early 90s based on what I just found on Chrono24. Looks like, depending on model etc., they are listing from between around 1500 and 6,000. The one I have is listing at around the 1600 mark. Thanks for the heads up!

Thank you so much. Yes, the market is really distorted right now. It is a fun watch but probably not worth nearly half as much as the market demand. Especially since its quartz. But I guess it is a consolation prize for some who cannot get a Cartier Crash (I know I can't get one). Honestly, I hadn't even considered what that Exaequo was worth. I'd actually never sell it. It was my father in law's and then my wife had the back engraved and she gave it to me on the day of our wedding. So the sentimental value is really what is important to me about this watch.

Someone needs to do a book on the Seiko diver watches, not me lol.  Seiko was late to the dive watch party, but they came to own it.

Prob my favs are my 67 AOPA Breitling Navitimer, 40s Mido Multicenter chrono and 40’s Rolex bubbleback. I also recently acquired a 1950’s Rensie 12-hr tricompax chrono that needs lots of work. Last repairman said it wasn’t worth the cost but I love the complications and style and will one day resuscitate it back to life. Oh last one in the project bin is a 60’s Hamilton Panda that looks like a trainwreck but still runs. Last repair quote $1,800-2K+ for new pushers, crystal and a complete overhaul/servicing of movement. We’ll see. Fun future projects.

Those all sound great. The Navitimer is awesome as does the Hamilton. Do you have photos?

I love it!

Thank you. Actually I agree. I’d love to see a reisssue or something like that. Longines has a deep bench. I’d love to see a mid 50s inspired Art Deco manual wind re-issue.

Beautiful collection! I love the Doxa for sure. A Grand Seiko Spring Drive would look nice in the lineup only because that Longines and Waltham look amazing!

Love the Waltham. Great piece of history!

Thank you! Yes, I agree! I’ve had my eye on the SBGA415 Winter edition since it first came out. Also the spring. I tried them both on and they are amazing in person. That is an awesome recommendation. Actually, I was out at dinner one time and the waiter had on the spring edition and he actually offered to trade it to me on the spot for my Speedmaster. I said no. But it would probably have been a fair trade.

How do you like the nodus ?

Actually. I can‘t say enough good things. For the price the watch punches way above its weight. The design is very well thought out. And the dial color is amazing. Depending on the light it shifts from a black to a very deep midnight blue. The crown is great and the time and date setting are precise. I love it. The one criticism I have is that I don’t like the friction bezel. I wish it was a click bezel. But I do like that it is a count down bezel. I also bought my wife the Sector Sport and she loves it. The owners, Wes and Cullen are really nice as well. They have a great podcast and were very responsive when I communicated with them. I’d definitely get another Nodus and I think they are an example of all that is great with microbrands.
