Any Mark XV Owners out there?

I’m thinking this is going to be my next purchase I save for. I prefer the hand set in the Mark ii through Mark XV, so I don’t want a current version of this watch. Any Mark XV owners out there? If so, do you like it? What are your thoughts about it?

I don't own one but GD the IWC Mark watches look so clean

I really am coming round to liking a lot of IWC watches. I don't currently have any, nor have I in the past. I do love the Yacht Club & Ingenieur models.

I will say one thing about the watch you've pictured. That bracelet style has to be the most overcomplicated & nightmare bracelet I've come across. I have a similar style bracelet for the Horage watch I recently purchased. The jeweller struggled to remove the links whilst I was in the shop, in the end I told him not to bother as I wasn't going to wear the watch on it anyway. Yesterday I decided to have a go at it. Whilst I managed to size it, it was ridiculously complicated to do so. Very easy to damage the lugs whilst trying to fit it also.

@tiffer thanks for sharing. I may consider getting one on a strap instead. What do you think of the Horage? I love what they’ve accomplished technologically. I’d love to support the brand but haven’t yet found one that speaks to me aesthetically yet.

The watch that I purchased, despite really not liking the bracelet, is quite unique. The crystal is multi faceted & this creates a variety of different colours when the light hits the dial. I love it, it's like nothing else I have got or previously owned. The watch itself appears to be of a high quality & certainly worthy of the 2k price point.

Most of their other models seem to be priced a fair bit higher & for me that means they're into the Grand Seiko/Omega range. I'm not sure I'd buy one at that price when I could buy an Aqua Terra or a Snowflake instead.

I almost pulled the trigger on this awhile back but decided on the mark 18 due to the matching hands and date wheel. Also the bracelet on the mark 18 is phenomenal. I think this is a cool watch too. It’s just that the mark 18 ticked all the boxes for me.

@Rockin thanks! The XVIII and XX both look amazing in person. I just prefer the older handset on the XV since it was what originally on the Mark ii.

the mark xv111 is definitely the nicest most cohesive design

I’m loving my recently acquired mark XVIII - I see what you mean about the hands but like the quality of the slightly newer one..

I wear a Mark XV daily and it's probably the best watch I have ever owned. I sold my Mark XVIII to fund it and never looked back!

@TriangleAtTwelve that looks so good! I’ve seen you in the TGN slack, no? Any thoughts on bracelet vs strap? Any suggestions of things to look out for in the second hand market? What do you think is a reasonable price for a good condition Mark XV on a bracelet?

@Speedy77 Yes you will have seen me in the TGN slack indeed! A few more people with XV's in there as well I think.

It's important to note there are three different generations of bracelets that were supplied on the Mark XV. The first gen milanese and the second gen 'pyramid' (the one I have on mine) being the most sought after one's. The third gen more closely resembles the Mark XVI bracelet. The movements seem to be rock solid and easy to have serviced. So honestly there isn't too much to worry about or look out for when buying a Mark XV.

It's always nice when it still has the original fish crown instead of the replacement modern IWC logo crown, but that's just a personal preference.

I'd say anywhere between 4-5k depending on the bracelet generation and overal condition is a fair price for a Mark XV.

@TriangleAtTwelve thanks so much! I’m “Classic Breeze” on the slack BTW. And I really appreciate your info. I’ve been longing for an IWC for years and have been debating endless between a Mark XII, XV or just the XX. Or the XVIII tribute to the XII. My ultimate grail would be the HODINKEE Mark XII tribute and I kick myself for not knowing enough in 2019 when it was released to buy it. But it looks like the XV is the way to go. Thanks again!

I Would have a 3706 over the mark 15 but they are awesome pieces I won't stop you bro.

·

@basssofa I’ve actually been interested in both. 3706 is awesome. I’ve got a Speedmaster, so I’m not looking for another Chronograph. If I didn’t have the Speedy, I’d go for the 3706. Right now I am looking for a non-chrono pilot’s watch for my next piece

Totally understandable I have my sinn 556 and breitling blackbird combo just for that. But I could probably replace them both with a 3706 one day. I need to find one on bracelet they are amazing on this era IWCs. Don't cheap out and buy one on leather, it is a false economy.

·

@basssofa the Sinn and Breitling are great. My IWC grail is the 3705 or tribute to the 3705. But I’ll never afford either. Lol.

I have an IWC Pilot’s 36 and to me is the perfect piece. Would love a xii or xv. Great, great piece you’re saving for there 😍
