One watch to rule them all

Hi all. Next year I'm hoping to buy a Seiko. I've wanted a Seiko since the TV ads in the 70's but they've always been too expensive for my budget. In fact, they still are. But I want one. I like field style watches, something legible at a glance. I don't like big watches and I don't like bling. It can be quartz or automatic. Can anyone suggest an 'affordable' Seiko that ticks all those boxes? Cheers. 🍻

€750? My wife would kill me! There must be something cheaper, surely?

You can get an Black Alpinist 1959 off Gnomon for $557 - and currently you can get at least another 6% off. They are out of Singapore and legit. Fast shipping and at that under $800 should face no import duties.

If you emailed or used their live chat feature, you might get a discount code.

Here is an article to point you in a direction. $275ish I believe. Maybe this ticks the boxes?

Also, if you go to Jomashop and look up Seiko Alpinist or Seiko Field several sub-$300 field type dial Seikos are available.

Here is one of my favorite Seiko and I actually got it at Costco. That’s a different band I put in. Also have you thought about building your own Seiko?

Paid £340 for one, eBay, lightly used.

I never, ever buy new, it's just not worth it. 😉

Building a watch? Christmas day will be the 2nd anniversary of me starting to build a Porsche. It's still in bits. In the massive box it came in. From Lego. 😂

Oh, that's nice. There's no way that strap's staying that colour in my job but it's easily replaced.

Just be super wary and use caution on jomoshop and aliexpress if you go that route. Prob fine for many, but enough people get screwed over that it’s worth reminding. I second some kind of Alpinist and it might be worth while wearing down the wife for a slightly higher budget. Start posting photos of the dream watch on the night stand, stick one in the wallet, talk about it all the time 😂
