Oris big crown 👑 or Seiko

Oris £1900

Seiko £690

What one are you choosing and why?

Are you a fan of green dials?

Oris is too plain for the price. I also think a conventional date window is more legible than Oris’ date hand, especially with the cyclops. I have two green watches, the green Alpinist and a very green Swatch.

I agree with you. Though i can not stand a date cyclops. I think both the oris and seiko look amazing with their differences, seikos sunburst dials just stand out more. Reading up on their specs now to justify the 'quality' differences to make up my mind.

Ive got a tissot Prx green dial and on the hunt for a second 😊

A couple of great watches, I’ve owned both.

At RRP maybe the Seiko. But I got the Oris new a lot cheaper in a sale - £1,200 I think. Really good for the money.

I don't think the specs will justify quality differences. Once you get over $1,000, people are buying the name more than the specs.

Which watch got more wrist time for you? If i saw the Alpinist in real life i may be walking out with it no doubt (affordability)

·

at 1200 less I'm going with the Seiko

·

Definitely the Big Crown. So many nice finishes on it and it just looks so much more balanced than the seiko to me

Great watch that seiko. Though i have another question for you, considering you chose the seiko becuse it saves you some £££

If you had both in front of you and the money was not the subject would you still go for the seiko?

·

I'm bias as I have the Oris Big Crown, but I think it's a better looking watch(coin edge bezel, polishing, case shape, size), more versitile, and more unique with the pointer date complication.

At retail price, the Oris is a little harder to justify, but on the grey market/second hand these are really going for ~$1000 depending on the model.

Can't go wrong with the Seiko Alpinist though, it's a great watch without a doubt, just not my cup of tea.

I agree with you 💯 my eyes are definitely hooked on the Oris. Though do you think its worth the bigger price tag? Do you/have you own/owned an Oris?

Can’t comment on the quality justifying the price as I haven’t ever owned or had hands on with an Oris. But, I would say that it just looks more premium and well finished from watching videos on both of them

Cant go wrong with a Hamilton thats a great choice, thank you for sharing 😊

·

This is exactly the 2 options I was thinking of for my next buy and I’ve decided I’ll go with the Seiko because of the huge price difference

omph, that's a much tougher question. Of these two exact models, I'd still go with the Seiko honestly. However, I'd take the Small seconds or the bronze variant over it every single time.

Too bad both of those are significantly more expensive than the standard big crown 🫤

·

S E I K O Alpinist. Grail! 🍻

·

If money was no object, Oris big crown, but the Hank Aaron edition

·

You cant really compare the two. I love both watches the same.

·

The Oris is the far better.... But I find it boring... So alpanist

·

That’s a tuff one! Good luck 😂

·

Alpinist GMT 👍🏻

·

I'm a big Oris fan however I had my first opportunity to try on the Aplanist green dial/gilt and it's an amazing watch. My favorite color is green and the Seiko hue packs more punch in my opinion. Good luck...

·

I voted Oris. I particularly like the date complication.

The Alpinist is a nice looking watch though. IMO spoiled by the non locking compass complication, it’d do my head in that it moves unintentionally so easily.

The Oris is more coherent and more solid feeling. So I prefer the Oris. The alpinist is quirky and good value…

Thank you for your input! I have a citizen world time eco drive and the outer bezel to adjust the 'gmt' moves far to easily. I can understand what you mean about the compass complication. 🧭

I’m choosing the Seiko because the Alpinist always struck a chord with me. My only issue is the overall quality. Seiko watches aren’t particularly well made and I’m not sure I can count on the movement being clean enough to ensure longevity. My SKX desperately needs maintenance after 2 years of light wear, and it’s been in a drawer since 2021 since I can’t find a competent watchmaker that repairs Seiko.

If San Martin was to make a GMt Alpinist clone with multiple dial colors in 38mm I’d blind buy it.
