A dress watch conundrum...

I have been hunting for the perfect dress watch for me, I love small understated and elegant pieces like the PP ref.96 shown, unfortunately that costs an absolute bomb and is probably a little small as well at 31mm.

Im hunting for elegance at a smaller case size (33 to 37) ideally manual wind with a nice looking movment for a couple of grand from any era modern or old.

Any suggestions??????

Not a bad shout, potentially a little overrated due to the Genta connection???

Depends what you mean, people are aware of them so they have gained in price recently, but the quality is undeniable. If you compare the movement finishing to a modern automatic it’s evident the time spent on something only seen by the watchmaker.

·

Their manual winds are pretty too…😬 and substantially cheaper than the Polerouters.

Definitely worth a look thanks :)

·

I love the UG’s suggested. I would also suggest just about any of the Omega collection from the 50’s or 60’s.

·

I’d likely look down the omega route. Plenty to choose from and fair prices

·

Have you looked at the Baltic MR.01?

The entire Longines Heritage collection is worth a look too.

·

of course, one of the popular choice is to get an omega seamaster de ville (either cased in switzerland or america); if not, then get a constellation.

but, for me, i agree with @Universal_Lee . theres a lot of nice UGs out there... and a lot of obscure references too.

Image

id say get a vintage must de cartier but that might be too small for your liking.

oh, some vintage jaeger-lecoultre might interest you -either le coultre or jaeger-lecoultre will be fine. my jlc gives off a calatrava vibe.

@RT_19X , i just got my MR01 from baltic. its helluva of a watch for its price. i got the BOR and it looks slighty better (for wrist presence) with the movement, on mine, it runs fine as of now. i like the unproven movement, tbh it looks like a good and fairly built movement (Hangzhou 5000)

Image

for longines, what more can i say? look at the conquest line; either vintage or modern one, youll never go wrong

or a vintage longines (manual wound, cal. 23zs preferably imho) might appeal to you ; and theres a lot from this legendary watchmaker.

Look on Jomashop and define search. You have to look in the women's section though or suffer the monsters they pedal to men. They should leave the gender off and just say big or small.

·

There are obviously lots of great dress watches that meet your criteria, and vintage Omega certainly comes to mind. You might want to check out the Omega Enthusiast web site for some ideas.

I tend to like watches that are somewhat unique or unusual, and there is no shortage of interesting vintage watches that meet that criteria. I'd suggest checking out sites like Chrono24 just looking for designs that spark your interest, and then focus your search in that direction. A couple that I've picked up are:

JLC with "mystery dial". Very cool piece, but at the low end of your range at 33mm. This one is 18K gold, so price would be at around the $2K USD mark.

Benrus "WristAlarm" with an alarm function. This one is 34mm, and being gold plated, much more reasonably priced.

Im not sure what you guys think, Frederique Constant has some elgant dress watches.

The heritage collection is good, I find the military and silver arrow to be the most compelling personally

How about a Nomos?

I am a fan of the Orion for sure, and the club sports as they are so thin with 200m WR!!

Id recommend looking at any vintage Longines flagship or conquest models. I picked this one up for just under 2000 CAD 18k solid gold and had it serviced by Longines for just under 400 CAD.

This looks fantastic, what size is it??

I 2nd vintage Omegas. From late 50s to early sixties there are many for well under 2K but probably over 1K.

Both beautiful, do you prefer having small or center seconds?

Modern Longines heritage and call it a day

Silver arrow is cool...

For strict dress up event a no date with center second. Other occasions I think small second spice things up a bit.

My fav one also

BOR means bead of rice (bracelet) its surprisingly very comfortable than most bracelets out there (the style is comfortable is what i mean)

Ahh of course! Seems obvious now you say it 😂😅

This is 33.5 mm - wrist shot makes it much larger than what it actually is!

Could you tell me the reference number of this vintage Longines?

its one of those obscure references from longines. someday ill have an extract from their archives. it houses a 23zs when i opened it; its from the 50s; and it has a LXW stamped on the movement meaning it was made for the american market (it says longines-wittnauer at the watch case; and case by star watch case company)

this is all the information i can give, as of the moment.
