Why this watch?
I did things a bit the wrong way round and bought a more expensive watch first, which was supposed to be a one off but instead drew me in to the watch world (see the review of that one here: https://www.watchcrunch.com/SaintJayJay/reviews/tag-heuer-monaco-caw211p-fc6356-review-235199)
I wanted a digital Casio as a child growing up in the 80s/90s but my parents wanted me to have an analogue watch so never ended up getting one so I had to make do with the pictures in the Argos catalogue
When I saw they were still a thing, and looking a lot like the ones I wanted as a kid and Casio doing a 20% Blue Light Discount I bought this (and a G-Shock which will be reviewed another time).
Overall Impressions
After years of using digital technology through high definition screens, it was nice to see something more lo-fi. It absolutely ticked the nostalgia boxes straight away with the overall shape, fonts and colours on the display and the general Casio-ness.
When you get a bit closer, you can see why these are not expensive. It doesn't feel very substantial, with quite a lot of plastic making up the case, but for the price, should you expect more?
Dimensions
The case is around 35mm across including the moulding around the pushers, and the upper most part of the bezel is about 30mm across and the same vertical. The lugs extend the size of the case to 40mm lug to lug. The lug width I've measured to 18mm. Case thickness is approximately 8mm and its weight is 49g.
Usability and comfort
Setting up the watch is not too much hassle although the buttons are a little fiddly. I have had to refer to the manual a few times for things like the alarm (which my 3 year old managed to somehow set for 2am and I couldn't turn it off). On the plus side, the backlight works well for such occasions.
Day to day, I haven't had any complaints with it in terms of reliability. It wears well size wise, my wrists are around 60mm across and 180mm around and I'm happy with how it fits me. It does feel light though, like its not there so if you like some heft, it won't be that reassuring presence.
I've found it quite a versatile wear, accompanying me in suits at work, out and about in smart casual and slobbing around the house in jogging bottoms and football shirts.
It is advertised as splash proof, and I haven't tested that too far. I have worn it whilst doing the kids' baths which are definitely splashy affairs, without any issues. I haven't submerged it though.
Bracelet
It is made of stainless steel and generally comfortable to wear although sometimes if the strap moves on the wrist, whilst removing a coat for instance, it can snag the hairs but its not that bad. When I first bought it, the clasp was very stiff to adjust but that has worked itself out now.
I've not been tempted to change the bracelet. The lug width is 18mm but there is very little space between the bars and the case which makes it look tricky to do.
Overall Thoughts
I've enjoyed this watch now for 3 months, with it being worn at least once a week. It does have that huge retro feel and scratches that itch I had for something like this when I was a kid. The price is great, around £40 on the Casio website before any discounts but I'm sure you can get good deals elsewhere. It represents good value for money but it isn't perfect; however, the faults it has haven't stopped me enjoying it so far.
I am from Liverpool, live in Scotland with my wife and 2 young children. I’ve always worn a watch but never gave them too much thought. I wanted to get something to mark my 40th and happened to see so...

Welcome to the experience of wearing the god tier of watches.
Congratulations on your purchase. 🍻
That's reasonable and well balanced review. Cool watch, but not flawless.
I've always been a Timex guy, but I suspect the being Canadian meant I was more exposed to Timex in my youth.
I have the A163, and it's very similar in most aspects to your little gem of a watch. That retro nostalgia really draws you in, doesn't it! Enjoy your watch 👍
Will this look good on a 8 inch wrist ??

Hi Dhruv,
I suppose it would depend on what your wrist shape is as well as size as to whether you think it’s well proportioned. I tend to find wrist width is a better indicator of fit as some of the circumference may be affected by the thickness between the top and bottom of the wrist.
My wrist circumference is 7” but about 2.4” wide to give you an indication of the proportions.
If yours are wider, it will obviously look a tad smaller on your wrist than mine, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing, it’s a good looking watch so it’ll be down to personal preference ultimately.
Cheers
