Would you rather...

Here's an interesting question. I don't own very expensive watches or straps, but it's all relative, I guess. The strap pictured on my Camy was almost as much as the watch, which doesn't make it expensive, but just pretend that it was super expensive. You don't need to pretend that that strap on my Eterna Matic is cheap, it's (I think) cardboard wrapped in leather.

I know a guy who's good at leatherwork (I don't know if "tanning" is a better term, although that conjures up images of him shirtless in a tanning bed) and I want to give him a call to help me make a few bespoke 18mm straps, because "genuine leather" just isn't doing it for me anymore.

I’m trying to figure this out too. I just posted a picture of an inexpensive strap with my wruw today. I’ve got some mid-level straps coming next week.

Sorry, is there a question in there for the poll?

You've supplied answers but not posed a question.

I’d pick the expensive watch with cheap strap. Sell it. Then buy a decent watch with a decent strap. Maybe two. Pocket the rest.

I'm very moderate here. Avoid the bottom rung tripe and get some real hide instead of painted and plasticized reconstituted leather scraps. Edges and holes should not be raw. But this triple digit stuff is for people who care way more than I do.

Seeing how I don't care much about how expensive a watch is, I think I'd say I can appreciate the quality of the band more, so cheap watch on expensive band it is.

Wait, have you scoured ebay and the like for the deadstock vintage bands? There tend to be really nice 60's era stuff for under $20 in the narrower sizes. I don't think Hirsch or Hadley-Roma are all that pricey either.

Ignore the body of the post and just go with the title & poll options.

But yeah, posing the question in the body of the post would be more helpful.

And the question is.....................?

There are a lot of expensive straps that are down right "cheap". On the other hand, there a many inexpensive straps that are well made and presents well.

You can always replace a strap/bracelet... but you may not want to part with a watch. My choice has always been the best strap for the least amount of money.

What kills me are the $200 rubber straps. No thanks.

Sorry about that, I got carried away. By that wall of text I meant to ask "which would you prefer; cheap watch, expensive strap, or expensive watch, cheap strap?"

Yeah, I got carried away and didn't really ask much of a question. Would you prefer a cheap watch with an expensive strap or an expensive watch with a cheap strap.

Yeah, I cannot stomach those overpriced rubber straps. It's just downright mean.

I also would be more likely to trust a more expensive, better quality strap on a cheap watch, because that way you know it won't fall from your wrist or tear randomly.

Four dimensional thinking I see...

Personally I wouldnt worry about the price of a watch but its dial aesthetics - lot of less pricey watches have amazing dials but their 'cheapness' is evident due to the original strap they come with so its much better to get a really good quality strap and make that watch look a lot more special - Since strap is an accesory it can always be then used for another watch in future if the cheaper watch stops working
