Can you safely swim with a 100m rated water resistance push/pull crown chronograph?🤪

Unplanned road trip today. Ended up in a place with a nice waterfall. All i did was take a wrist shot, but if i ever wanted to, is it safe to swim in a push/pull (non screw down) crown rated at 100m water resistance? Just curious. 😊

Depends on the watch.

Depends on the watch.

Would you do it on a tagheuer chrono? I changed out the leather strap to a milanese so it could get wet with no issue. 😁

·

It depends on what the owners manual says. Some companies say 100m and mean it others say 100m and mean that is how close to the water you can get 😂

Hahahahaha! Point taken 🤣

I would rather not. Even with screw down and 100m I would risk only splashing water in it, not swim…but I am just very risk averse when it comes to my watches (especially pricier once like TAGs). So unless watch is really 200-300m or has ISO diver certification - would not swim 😅

·

I’d just take it off and put it in a bag/somewhere safe away from the water.

·

Of course. It’s rated to 100m, crown type doesn’t matter. Just make sure the crown is pushed in.

If its brand new, then it should be fine, IMO.

If its got a million winds and pushes, then I'd be less confident.

·

Cant see why not, it should handle a waterfall no problem. Nice waterfall btw I would have taken a dip.

·

Yes. Get in, don't worry about it. Unless it's missed it's service or you've been messing with it.

·

How risk averse are you?

Yes so far the most water this watch sees is from the sink when i wash my hands. 🤣

I was just curious what everyone thinks about swimming with a push pull crown. I personally am hesitant aboout it

Good idea. I feel unsafe swimming with a push pull crown as well. Plus the pushers are another point of water entry(?)

You won't feel anxious at all with a non screw down crown while swimming? I am a little hesitant about it hehehe. Thanks for the article. 😊

Yes it's less than 2 weeks old but i am hesitant to swim with non screw down crowns in general. The worse could happen. Specially with me 😆

Scary hehehe

IT ws fine, looked like a dive watch🤷

·

Usually yeah, just don't activate any of the pushers/crown obviously, but also check their website for what their standards of testing are

·

I don’t think it would be rated 100m unless the manufacturer thinks you could. However, most 100m watches don’t have screw down crowns and I won’t submerge a watch without a screw down crown

Most of the hate towards Tag is from the uneducated who haven’t lived with them. They’re very well built and will stand the test of time.

I am very satisfied with my first Tag. It is consistently running at +1 second per day right now. Not bad for a non cosc movement. It means they regulate it well. 😍

Agreed thats whats holding me back and giving me doubts as well

Thanks. I was a bit scared since accidents can happen (accidental pull of the crown etc). Specially with my bad luck 😆

The best is/are screwed down crowns. Even for chronograph pushers, but that is a feature of more expensive pieces. BTW, there are a number of different crown protection devices and having many variations in the clooection is one thing I look to acheive. I still do not have a Panerai Luminor but one of these days.

I have a Carrera and have been swimming in that thing for years. Took it on holidays all over the world and spent many many hours in the ocean.

100% safe!

Love to see a watch put to the test and it sure seems you did/do so. Still looks great!

BTW, I have been trying to ween myself from taking multiple watches on vacation. 😉

I bought a blue TAG Heuer 1000 out of a Sharper Image catalog around 1990. Man do I wish I still had it. I sold it to buy a power amp.

Time to get another? I can positively vouch for the TH20-00 movement. 😁

Scary hehehe

didnt realise....

Ehh this it a loaded question to be honest. I personally wouldn’t d test the waters with my the chronograph to play it safer because of the pushers not being as resilient

Yep i didnt go through with it 😄

·

no, I wouldn't do it, a 100m watch and a crown without a thread never sees water🤣🤣🤣🤣

·

I would swim with it. Do not use the pushers while under water. I also would not put it under the waterfall. The 100m is more about pressure than depth. So you could simulate 100m worth of pressure by rapidly pulling your arm through the water. I would feel comfortable swimming with a 100m watch. 50m I wouldn’t want to be in a severe rainstorm. 30m I would not wash my hands. LOL. 200+ I would do anything water related. Maybe not water ski because if you fall the pressure could be bad.

Thanks for the advice 🤗

I dont think i own any watches under 100m water resistance - except my moonswatch, but i only have it on display and dont wear it 😁
