Luxury Quartz

Hello all. I am looking for a luxury quartz watch. Has anyone ever had an Omega Aqua Terra Quartz or the Grand Seiko pictured above in quartz? Are they worth it or am I just paying for the name? I would be buying these second hand to keep the cost down. If anyone has any suggestion please let me know. Thanks.

I have the #grandseiko SBGN003 and absolutely love it. What’s better than having a quartz GMT when you don’t have to reset time?!

I have a quartz Tank that I like a lot. The thing there is that there’s no seconds hand so the difference isn’t obvious. I’ve been looking at that GS for a few months and have no issues with it being quartz. I think it would be a great daily watch as well as traveler. If I had to live with a single watch I’d definitely consider it.

As an aside, I think this quartz thing is something many of us have gone through. When we first get into watches we fall in love with everything mechanical and look down our noses at quartz. You hear people talk about them fondly and just wonder why? Like what could you see in that. Eventually most of us come to a point where we start to re-appreciate the benefits of quartz. Some of the magic of setting and winding a watch wears off. Quartz makes sense again.

Obviously, buy what you will wear and love. But I’d say don’t be afraid of quartz or think it’s “less”.

There watches quartz and there are quartz watches, these are the latter...

I have an Omega Seamaster SMP with the quartz movement that has been my mainstay for over a decade. I absolutely love it. The ease of use and not to mention cost (or lack thereof) of ownership makes a ton of practical sense. Mine is going strong since 2012 without a service, and is accurate to 10 sec/year!

I use the word movement, and not module, purposefully here. These have jewelled and serviceable movements unlike cheap, disposable quartz watches.

The GS 9F quartz movements are truly in a league of their own. The technology here is mind-boggling. The movements are sealed and have a 50 (yes, fifty!) year service interval and near unfathomable accuracy. A GS with this movement is literally my grail watch.

I'll add a couple contenders to your list:

i) the Citizen Chronomaster. Beautiful design, and amazing Qtz movement. A more affordable rival to the GS. I've never owned one, but have had hands-on and they're stellar timepieces.

ii) Casio Oceanus OCW-T200. Quite possibly the perfect quartz watch and an amazing budget alternative. To-the-second accuracy since it's Multiband 6 (or Bluetooth if you don't get the signal where you live), and impeccable fit and finish. All for $500... Yea...

It's probably my go-to watch for work or travel when I'm not in my Seamaster. I also work around strong magnetic fields, so quartz watches are important as I've magnetized mechanical watches before.

I hope that helps! Happy New Year!

tldr; These are amazing! Buy one and you won't be sorry, but cast a wide net and look at Citizen and Casio Oceanus.
