Chrono24 certified… HOW MUCH?!

No seriously…. £249??

EBay authenticity guarantee is FREE…

Am I missing something or being unreasonable??

I guess maybe they see themselves as having more authority than EBay on whether a watch is real or not? Not sure. Seems overpriced. If it was $50 it might be worth it. But $250? That’s insane. I don’t know if Chrono24 sales are mostly luxury watches. If that is the case it makes a lot more sense.

In fairness, Ebay authenticity is only free on items over $2k and they have to be domestic to the USA. It's $80 for items below that threshold.

When you look at the selling price differential between authorised dealers & private sellers, £249 is ridiculously high for watches at the lower end of the market. A cost that seems disproportionately high.

If you’re selling a watch at > 10k, the £249 may well be worth paying as I think you could probably ask for more than that sum than without the guarantee.

I would have thought a sliding fee scale based on the value of the watch, capped at £249 would have been a more attractive proposition for everyone.

Not sure of the charges to the seller on Chrono24 but eBay isn't cheap.

Way higher than on Chrono24. I think there’s a difference of between 7%-8% for buy it now costs.

Christian at Theo and Harris doesn’t rate eBay very highly. For brands that are less likely to have fakes, I would be willing to use eBay, I wanted to buy something a bit more recognized, I would do my homework to find a reputable dealer.

This runs counter to their business model. Their only real value is the escrow service where you have ~14 days to authenticate the watch. Which you could do much more cheaply with a local watchmaker.

I doubt they will have many takers for this service. To me, this is additional signs that grey/watch dealers are having financial difficulties.

May have jumped the gun on this… but it still seems a bit messy?!

The original £249 was for £7.5k OP… this included one for a £2k Blackbay

eBay does it for free over $2000. Under 2k and they charge $80 as an option.

Chrono24 charges 6.5%, which is rather reasonable compared to eBay.

That could be the reason they charge so much for other services 🤷
