NWA: Holy smokes Batman

So last month I bought a vintage 16800 Submariner which was a thing of beauty.

However something odd started to happen the more I wore the Sub. A gnawing thought starting making way into my brain: what if I traded this for a GMT master II?

Well a few hard weeks of looking around and I finally bit the bullet, traded the Sub and here we are.

Presenting the 2018 116710BLNR otherwise affectionately known as the Batman.

This is the thought process I used: I travel more than I dive - and I never dive.

You will have them one day. Btw, I love you GS snowflake. Been wanting to get one for more than 3 years.

·

Thank you and same to you sir! You’ll have one at some point!

I was playing pickleball last night and I thought a guy was wearing a Batman, turned out to be a Batgirl. Never knew the difference until last night. I don't like jubilee bracelets and I don't think I'd ever wear a Batgirl.

You know a lot of people are turned off by the Batgirl and still prefer the older Batman reference.

Wow! You traded in the Rolex 5 digit slim tapered case design for the Batman! The Batman is a sharp, handsome and more functional watch. I have both, saved and bought the Batman when it first came out. I couldn't let go of the vintage Subby. More power to you brother 🤙🏽

Stay Thirsty My Man 🍻👊🏽

Looks fantastic man 💯

It was a difficult choice no doubt and I absolutely wouldn't have let the vintage go if it was not for the service dial. Rollie did vintage very well.

Many thanks

Congrats!🔥

It’s nice to see a GMT bezel in use. I think I’ve decided that if i ever get a Rolex GMT, I’d get the Flanders (black/green & lefty) on Jubilee. It might be nice to have the real version of my pagani design.

This is the case with all traveler GMTs that i am aware of. And i’m fairly sure that this is the case with all GMTM2s.

That's interesting.....always something to learn every day

Well played my friend…well played…🍺

I did the same thing. Had to add money to get what I have now but definitely worth it.

Had a James Cameron, traded for a chocolate dial two tone DJ then traded that plus money for my Pepsi. Got there eventually.....

Yeah I'm using it to track EST on the bezel while my local time is in the UK.

One thing which I was surprised to find out was that the Batman doesn't have a quick date set function. Is that the case with the 126710BLNR as well?

Nope! And the best thing in the world to lack that quick set feature.

SOOO much better to have bi-directional setting of the time with a jumping GMR hour.

I gave had other GMT, but quick set it do much worse.

Note: I travel to Europe and Asia, based in the United States. So setting my time frequently

Can I ask why u went grey? Do you have no purchase record too and gave up waiting? Cause I am thinking of a gmt too

That's why it's called a true GMT Vs. A collar / office GMT.

Hi mate,

Reasons I went the dealer route:

  1. I refuse to play Rolex's games with their boutiques, ADs and the so called waiting list BS.

  2. It's my money and I don't see why I have to "grovel" to gain the utility of my purchase.

  3. Rolex's so called "demand" is also faux and is mostly generated by these ADs holding back inventory.

  4. The price delta between the dealer and retail has been reducing and is a more palatable point.

  5. According to the dealer that I bought this from, there is little action from actual buyers buying Rollies. Most of the traders / dealers are selling amongst themselves to ensure they don't start building on inventory which they can't move quickly.

I've been in technical sales at various positions for almost 20 years and I have never seen a brand lose their goodwill like Rolex is. They may have the lion's share of the global market for watches but they'd be well to heed the example of a brand called Nokia who once ruled the cellular world.

Customers make a brand

Not waiting lists.

I never agreed with the “caller/flyer” nomencalture.

Setting the date is a critical thing when traveling over the date line. With jump hour it is intuitative. Quickset date is just a nuisance if jump hour GMT is present.

Many people travel for pleasure (who really cares the time elsewhere?). Others travel often, but within a few time zones (Easy to add or subtract a few hours). But if you are 8 to 16 hours off and collaborating with others, it is easy to make a mistake.

My pet peeve is people who think they can “do they math” in their head, and miss scheduled meetings or agree to times they cannot support. Happens all the time
