How Good Is the Finishing on a Chronomaster?

Well, judge for yourself. This is the AQ4091-56E, part of the "The Citizen" Line. Complete with High Accuracy Quartz movement, titanium case, and a Tosa washi paper dial.

Gorgeous watch.

And a +/- 5 second per year solar powered movement.? Amazing!

yep +/- 5 . I think it's got some serious SARB033 vibes too

·

Love this watch. $2,500 is a bit steep for me though unfortunately. The Longines VHPs are much cheaper HAQ watches but not nearly as good looking.

·

That dial is stunning, it's on par with GS levels of finishing for sure. If I'd go high end luxury quartz I'd get this over a GS to be honest

·

It’s a gorgeous watch. Don’t get me wrong. And while the bracelet and especially the clasp on the Chronomaster is shit for a $10,000 watch. The finishing on the case, the dial, and most, especially the movement is a completely different league apart from the citizen. We can argue all day long about value for dollars, but if you were comparing the fit and finish of this watch to the case and movement fit finish and design of a chronomaster, it’s not close.

Now, if you are comparing fit and finish on a dollar ratio? No doubt dollar for dollar this citizen would take the bag. I’m just not sure which question you are asking.

This model line is on my list for the next japan trip souvenir- whenever that may be.

Congrats on yours. Looks great 🤩

I have one of those as well. The GMT one. It's too bad Longines seems to have given up on them. But your right price is steep. I actually got this one "like new" for a pretty good price. Not much more then what I paid for my Oceanus S5000.

·

I tried a few of these on last month…and…wow.

·

I love that they chose to elevate a solar movement.

There's a poetic sort of irony in that our concept of time is really just a way of referencing our position on earth relative to the sun, and the sun is what is powering this movement.

I hope they expand on this line.

This watch is excellent

·

Citizen has really been stepping up their game recently. Have you seen any of the new series 8 watches? The series 8 890 in blue looks like an awesome watch, once the price deflates a bit

·

Great watch, I'm wearing the AQ4091-56A myself today 👍🏽

$10k in what currency? I only paid $2k USD brand new for mine 🤔

Does the Longines VHP come with a built in perpetual calendar function like the 060 movements on the Chronomasters? That in addition to the all titanium construction, finishing and accuracy justify the price for me

What a handsome watch. Dial handset and markers are all well balanced, and clean.!! What a joy to have on your wrist !

There is only one company that makes a Chronomaster, they are around $10k to start, and this ain’t one of them

Gorgeous. That case design and chamfered sides are a 10/10. 😍

Japan is really showcasing their incredible craftsmanship and attention to detail on dials and cases in recent years. While the Swiss industry still makes sladsided beasts like they're still producing 1950s tool watches all the while charging $10.000. 🙄

I would add that not only cases and dials, the tech behind the dial is pretty spectacular also.

No other brands comes close to Citizen when it comes to the accuracy of the movement.

As much as people through around the term “homage” I’m surprised the conversation about this essentially being a grand seiko homage hasn’t come up.

Dauphine hands and stick indices is hardly a homage. That term is thrown around far too often.

I have a feeling you’re thinking of a different watch. These watches can be had for around $2000 in the US.

Absolutely beautiful watch. I have my eyes on the AQ4100 57L, this is definitely tempting me even more to get one.

My watch is a Citizen Chronomaster AQ4091-56A, which company are you talking about?

Man this thing is next level beautiful! I'd still prefer the blue dial no date version but those HAQ Citizen are a thing in their own

Are you thinking of the Caliber 0100 no date Chronomaster? It's pretty fantastic but I'm not sure if you know the date versions have a full built in perpetual calendar so you never have to adjust the date until theoretical year 2100

Image

Also the no date caliber 0100 are only 50M WR while the date versions are a full 100M WR making them more versatile for GADA while you have to treat the no date version like a semi dress watch

Really good, I'd say. When this line of Citizen is competing in the same bracket as Grand Seiko's quartz models they better have damn good finishing.

As someone who owns multiple GS watches I will say GS quartz models have the edge in finishing and details, especially their special dial models, but the Citizen Chronomasters trump them in functionality (perpetual calendar) and value

Zenith. Why would citizen call a watch a “chronomaster”. It’s an obvious homage of a grand seiko with a name stolen from zenith. Seems peculiar

Were not talking about the Zenith in this post. No wonder your comments weren't making sense. Sorry for your confusion 👍🏽

Put in Google the following question. “What watch company makes a watch called a Cronomaster“ and see what it tells you. I feel my confusion is warranted.😂😂😂😂 don’t you guys think it’s strange that they named Watch that A. isn’t a chronograph and B. is literally the name of another famous watch already?

Citizen has been selling chronomasters since 1967. It is not a recent move from them. This video has a pretty good history of the chronomaster line from Citizen https://youtu.be/DRrgR9H9PWc?si=CI8daXv0l_cyO5Vm

Yes, I was thinking about that one. I'm aware of all that but I still just love the no date looks
