Rate my dress watches!

Hello there! I wanted to share the 2 dress watches I have in my collection. Both Vintage Seiko as I love collecting them but to be honest is also what I can afford as a student. My current system is I wanted a dress watch for daytime and nightime tones and for them to match my two formal outfits as seen in the photos. Finally I wanted them to be either steel or if I could afford white gold as I prefer them over the flashiness of yellow and rose gold. I think i did very well with my choices. The first is a Circa:1982 Seiko "Cellini Octagon" Dolcé ref: 9521-5020. I love the feeling of an integrated bracelet dress watch and the vintage sizing with it's smaller wrist presence despite it's integrated design. It's two tone colour scheme also provides me with the steel look that I prefer while also providing a pop of gold that I wanted for my daytime tone. The second is a Circa: 1971 Seiko "Cartier and Piaget Tank Homage" handwinding. This is my tank and staying true to it's age the smallest watch in my collection with an incredibly small movement within it too. I love the unique case shape of this piece aswell as it's rare navy blue dial with white Roman numerals (Like stars on the midnight blue sky. Perfect for my nightime attire) which is gorgeous in person as it separates itself from your typical tank homage. Sorry for the longer post and I'm thankful if you made it this far. What do you think of my pair?

Those are great pieces. That said, there are more models in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in Seiko. You can find a Tissot tonneau for half the cost of any of those two. Just saying. But whatever sparks joy.

You have exquisite taste. And money can’t buy good taste.

You should really tell me more about this Tissot model. A $50 Tissot Tonneau would be a dream. I acquired these two for $104 and $95 respectively.

Okay, so maybe I was way off in my cost estimation. I thought your Seikos were around 200 USD. Here's a listing of Tissot Stylist for half that, as an example. You can also try looking for lesser known brands like Enicar, Elgin, Benrus, Wittnauer, Gruen, etc. Stay away from these brands after they closed shop (70s and 80s) as casualties of the quartz crisis. Many of them were bought by less than stellar companies that used and abused their IPs.

These brands, at their prime, were the bomb, with a wide range of really classy, reliable dress watches that turn heads and compel admiration. They elevate your formal wear and they're not too shabby in casual wear either.

This 1950s Benrus I got for around 100 USD:

The point I was making is, Seiko is great yes, yadda-yadda. But there are other brands that deserve some of the attention and consideration from collectors, especially the young such as yourself.

Oh yeah I absolutely get your point. There's some absolutely gorgeous pieces at this price point from other brands. The vintage dress watch market is vast. I've been personally eyeing pieces from Ricoh, Raymond Weil Geneve and Sandoz that are currently on my local market. My current choices are just me fanboying since I have a massive sub- collection of Seiko 12/15 watches I own to be precise. Also that Benrus is absolutely stunning and a fantastic find at 100 USD. I love small seconds but they're either too expensive or damaged beyond even my love in my local market.
