I can't do bronze at all, it's a bad reaction with whatever I'm made of. But when I was trying a bronze watch I definitely didn't want the patina. If you want to slow down the patina use a wax after cleaning, something like turtle wax will work just fine.
I like to spruce mine up to approaching shiny again. Takes very little effort. I use car paint cutting compound, T-Cut. Just a gentle massage and it works well for me.
Patina, but no forced processing (not a fan of the greenish hue from salt exposure). I like how my bronze khaki has turned out after around 8 months with me, with a brownish hue with pops of shine where there is less patina. It looks to be pretty stable at this point.

Patina
You had be at bronze. What was the question? 😉
Hate to say it, but the shine of a new bronze looks stellar, but it is an ongoing battle with what looks best.

If you don't want a natural patina do not get a bronze cased watch. Otherwise you'll end up polishing it to death.
If you hate the look of bronze it makes ZERO sense to get one.
Would you buy a blue goldfish?

Shine.
I’m a patina guy myself.
Patina for bronze. Nice and shiny for steel.
Patina forever!

My thoughts too, if you want the shiny go,d look, get shiny gold finish, bronze only makes sense if you like the patina it will develop.
The patina gives bronze watches a nice vintage feel, if that floats your boat.
