Review: Was on My Wish List for a While...

For those of you with Amazon accounts, you are aware you can create a Wish List. Well, this polished stainless steel Tissot Swissmatic had been on mine for months, and survived numerous prunings of said list. But I didn't want to pay the going price, which at the time was $350.

So the other day I'm looking at my wish list and clicked on the Tissot to look at pricing again and I saw one for sale "Used - Like New," in the other buying options, sold from the Amazon Warehouse, for $170. "Used - Like New" better be like new, I'm very particular about that claim, but Amazon has a good return policy so I ordered it.

  • It arrived in the original box (seals broken), with the warranty info & card, plastic still on the band as it sat on the original cushion. It had never been worn and was indeed absolutely new. No dings on the case nor scratches on the sapphire crystal. It's as if someone opened the box, saw that it was too big or whatever and just sent it back.

  • I love the simple, clean, high-contrast layout with the Arabic numbers, the 40mm size is great for my 6.75" wrist, and the highly polished case shape reminds me of watch cases from the 1960's, like my beloved Desta Ultra-flat, for example:

Image
  • It has the C15.111 movement, based on the Sistem 51 (ETA C10.111), and apparently it's not serviceable. Case, crystal, crown, gaskets, yes, but the movement is disposable, something that surprised me. This one also most likely has the synthetic escapement. Power reserve is three days:

  • There's a version of this exact watch, but with a black leather strap, that costs around $180, so Tissot seems to be placing a huge premium on the admittedly beautiful and highly polished bracelet, which uses a jewelry clasp (clasp pic courtesy of Tissot):

I'm really pleased with the price I paid and the complete accuracy of Amazon's "Used - Like New" descriptor from their Amazon Warehouse, which will give me confidence making future purchases like this. This watch is highly polished absolutely everywhere, and since I'm very much attracted to shiny things, is pleasing to my eyes.

After my recent Timex purchase - and now this - I'm starting to feel like I'm slipping back into my old ways of buying too frequently, and I do have an AliExpress purchase on the way too, but it's an inexpensive one, so it doesn't count. AND THIS ONE DOESN'T COUNT EITHER OKAY SO GET OFF MY BACK ALREADY

Among that list, who is next in line? What's your top?

All of those are excellent. The Casio is a huge value, IMO, and what a great color!

That Citizen reminded me of my recent Timex purchase.

Funny you mentioned Costco, I was in my local store the other day and for the first time since becoming a serious watch collector, I was able to browse watches in person. I was so excited! Timex, Glycine, Bulova...then I saw the prices and realized that I could get them cheaper on Amazon. I was bummed.

I'll check out their online store.

Yes a lot you can find cheaper on Amazon except for this one. Which I did pick up. Price now is around $285 but Costco is still better

I just went on the site and looked around. It'd be great if they carried more. I saw that G-Shock too, wow what a beast!

I have the cousin to this watch. It is the Tissot Everytime Large (that's its actual name). It cost $125 about 4 years ago. It's a thin quartz dinner plate - 42mm large and all dial, hardly any bezel. It's too big. And it has the worst second hand I've ever seen on a watch - jumpy, jittery, and missing most of the markers. But I just don't care. You're right - these Tissots are absolutely beautiful, and my watch must know that when you have a pretty face, you can get away with things. I wear mine to the Sunday Mass or when I am out to dinner with my daughters, because it seems to demand a special occasion. Glad you're enjoying your Swissmatic.

This is indeed a very nice and inexpensive Swiss Watch. I've owned it myself! Don't worry pallet_fork, from a watch lover's perspective, you've saved so much on this one, why not get another!!!! ;)
