How Big is This Watch?

Given some recent posts on watch size (too big/too small; men’s/women’s; etc.) I thought we’d play a game. How big is this watch? Can you tell?

It's a 40mm and you have 9" wrists...? 🤣

·

Impossible to tell from such a close up shot not centered on the wrist and not knowing the size of your wrist. But as a guess I'll say not 40mm.

·

It's a trick, it's 33mm isn't it! 😉😄😜

If it’s not a 34mm then it must have a 40mm lug to lug at most. My BB36 has a 44mm lug to lug and it takes up most of my wrist at 6”

You’re going to pull a switcheroo and tell us it’s a 44mm and you’re The Rock aren’t you?

You have less than a 17cm wrist. Vantage was around briefly in the in 1960's (eventually owned by Hamilton). It is all dial in that 1960's "everyman" style.

34mm.

You have a Nodus Sector, I have that watch. Based on how that wears on your wrist, I’d say this is 34mm.

Did I get it, is that cheating 😁✌️

I’ve come to really appreciate more modest case sizes. 34mm ish watches are so comfortable and light, I can’t get enough!

·

There is only comfort, size is not relevant

I knew you would appreciate all the variables at play here. 🤝😉

Might be the point I was trying to make here… 😉🤝

Not cheating. Using all the information available to you is clever.

So many variables: wrist size, lug-to-lug, era of production, camera lens focal length/distortion…etc.

But the (maybe not so subtle) point here is that size isn’t relevant. 😉

Love your insights into all things vintage! Keen observations, all.

Though I bought this to learn watchmaking, it didn’t need much in the way of service to resurrect. I’ve come to appreciate more than it’s $12 eBay price. (Even my vintage finds are affordable. Well, as long as one overlooks the ~$150 of watchmaking tools at that point. 😉)

That dial, with even-numbered Arabics and odd-numbered indices seems a nice “everyman” GADA decision. I like it more every time I wear it.

My wrist is about 6.75 inches and 34mm fits perfectly. That's back when watches were just watches and most people owned one. If you have just one it makes sense that it should be versatile like that Vantage.
