Hi everyone! I'm Edwin. I live in Kenya, East Africa. Accidentally fell in love with watches about 2 years ago when my partner gifted me one for my birthday. I now have five watches in my very modest collection and I couldn't be happier. Glad to be here.
Welcome to WC! Tell us the story how you accidentally fell in love with watches, love to hear more!
Thank you!...Well, 2 years ago on my 31st birthday, my girlfriend (now fiancé) gifted me a package that had a leather wallet and belt, some sunglasses, a fancy pen and....a watch! I did not have much knowledge on watches at the time but I could tell that the watch was some generic Chinese brand (still, it's the thought that counted for me). However, once I tried it on for the first time, I noticed that it had three subdials that didn't seem to do anything really. I soon realized that these were just stick-ons but that got me curious as to if there are watches out there with subdials that actually work. And if so, what are their functions?
What I thought was going to be a simple Google search opened a whole new world to me and 3 months later, I had already purchased two Casio watches (the F91W and the Duro). The rest, as they say, is history 😂.
I still have the generic Chinese brand watch in my collection for sentimental reasons and now, even my fiancé has developed an interest in watches with 3 of her own.
Oh, I have seen these Chinese watches with non-functioning subdials on websites and youtube videos. That's an odd start into watch collecting, because it would have put many people off.
But even by generic Chinese standards that is looow end. You can get full functioning quartz chronos for around £15 from brands like Ochstin, though I'd recommend to up the ante just a bit. Around £70 there are some really nice mecaquartz chronos with Seiko movements, like this Parnis:

The Parnis actually looks pretty nice. And with a Seiko movement you say? I'll definitely be checking that out.
Welcome, Edwin! You’ll feel at home here. Cheers!
