Obscure fashion watches, does anyone else have a soft spot for any brands?

Even though I love vintage 60s and 70s watches, I have really liked dunhill watches also and today I have got another from dunhill. I know the brand is more famous for their cigars and cigarettes than their watches and men's apparel but what say? I'm a sucker for these.

I don't know the brand but that looks like a cool and daring, retro-inspired design. Far more interesting than the average fashion brand selling Alibaba watches with their gaudy logo slapped on the dial.

Actually dunhill are a tobacco brand but they also have a men's fashion branch of the company, they have been selling watches for 80 years or so. I say selling because I'm sure they get small Swiss companies to make their watches.

If they're Swiss, then they're better than most of today's branded accessories. And that logo is cool.

Bravo, Bigglesworth!

I have been eyeing one of the Tank style watches myself. Would love to hear your experience with the watch.

I have a Dunhill DM7 which is ani-digi and unique watch with facet crystal. I love the range of quartz Dunhill you can get, Chrono24 most are in Japan

If you like tanks, the dunhill dunhillion is the better choice. I bought mine second from eBay seven years ago. From the the paperwork it's a 2008 model with an ostrich leather strap.

It's powered by a ETA quartz. Luckily there are various dails and configurations , including a chronograph version with that model, so there should be something for your taste.

With my experience there hasn't been any issues, and I've had guys asking were to get one.

The cons are that dunhill do provide servicing but it takes an eternity to get it back you. It would be easier to find a replacement quartz movement and get a watchmaker to do it, or if your brave you can do it yourself.

I was actually looking at the Centenary Mechanical. It might be a bit too small for my style but I love the shape and simplicity.

This is my Dunhill RPM chronograph.

I think it’s selling Dunhill a bit short to call them a fashion watch, they had been making watches since 1929 using Swiss watchmakers such as JLC for the movements. My watch has the same ETA movement that would be in the sleedmaeter and TAG Heuer Monaco of the same era.

Technically it is a fashion watch, but I honestly believe that these watches are vastly underrated.

What makes a fashion brand?

What makes a fashion brand?

Well, it's a fashion/designer or clothing company that sells watches. Usually these watches are made via a third party. Before these watches weren't all that bad and made with a certain credibility, quality and classic styles. Dunhill, sears and guy laraoche to name a few.

Presently fashion watches are just made to be disposable once that certain style has faded, Hugo boss and Micheal kors are some of these.

Ah yes I see, I was thinking more of the modern way of thinking about fashion watches. I guess that makes Cartier a fashion brand.

Well Cartier was mostly known for jewellery back in the day and did make the first tank. ( I think I'm correct on that one but not 100% )

Dunhill is also famous for their lighters and pipes, some of the finest quality in the biz.

·

I almost bought this Dunhill coz I like the way they shape their cushion case
