Burgundy Dials & Strap Dilemma

It’s neat seeing these two together, they’re similar and yet very different.

The Waltham was my dad’s first watch when he was in high school. It’s a manual wind which still tells pretty good time. I gave it a good cleaning and switched the elastic bracelet to a leather strap, and it’s great to wear.

The Omega is my latest purchase. I haven’t earned it yet, so it will sit in the box until I am ready for it. It will need a good service, and likely some parts. It also needs a new crystal, a thorough cleaning, and I plan to replace the strap. At first I thought about a black strap like the Waltham, but I’m thinking that a burgundy strap might be nice.

Any thoughts on what strap would look good on the Omega?

The grape leaf strap is intriguing to me, though the price is a bit steep. That’s nearly what I paid for the watch.

The backstory:

Every watch that I get needs to have a purpose in my collection… some watches were passed down from family members or given to me as a gift by someone special. But I have begun to buy watches to celebrate different goals and milestones.

When I say that I’m not ready for the Omega, it’s because I bought this watch to celebrate the successful planting of my home vineyard, which won’t be until March. But that’s why the grape leaf strap is interesting.

Lovely watches. Since it is a milestone strap choice, I’d go for either the burgundy or the green one. It seems excessive to spend 1 on the watch and 1 on the strap, of course, but it would really mean a lot on the leaf strap. But, the burgundy would make it amazingly monochromatic.

I suppose the burgundy strap is cheap enough that if I go for the leaf strap I could get the burgundy as well.
