Teasing myself

Just been trying on these two stunners 😍the light blue one is my favourite only problem they cost more then my car and I’m really torn because I could afford one right now but I’ve been saving up for something bigger in life then a watch but I also know I’m probably never going to be in the position to afford watches like this again being a working class man

Don't sell yourself short...you'll move up as you go and things will become more attainable

·

Sell the car, the walking will get you fitter and you'll be able to time yourself on your lovely new Omega 😁

Was in a similar position myself a few years ago, I got the watch (sm300 heritage) because I know I'd never be that financially flush again (work in retail, minimum UK wage). Haven't regretted it in the slightest & adore my Omega.

Good luck with the tough decision 🤞🏻👍🏻

You don’t need the watches. Go save for your bigger item in life.

My older brother used to always say things will get better if you stay focused. He was right sort of because sometimes the light at the end of a tunnel is the train heading straight for you. Watches are like roses, nice but not essential. I think in a few years you might surprise yourself.

Like Luke Skywalker..stay on target

·

Don’t do it. Not worth it. Watches will always be there.

Watches are a luxury and hobby, not a necessity. Saving, paying off debt, a reliable car and a comfortable home are all infinitely more important than a watch.

I don’t know about a reliable car I own a Alfa 🙈🤣but I get what you are saying it all is very true

·

Microbrands are so well made now and there’s so many to choose from I’d lean in that direction at this time in your life.

Save a small amount per month until you have saved up enough for this Omega. You will probably change your mind and something else will catch your eye in the years that follow, if not this Omega is definitely the one for you.

Stick to your original plan with the money you’ve already saved up.

I don't know if you would see this among other replies, but I would say if I were you, I'd go for the watch.

Simply because of these two reasons.

Firstly, realistically speaking, the price difference between these two models is not going to really make that much of a difference.

You cannot buy a house with the price difference, nor could you invest it into something that generates any cash-flow significant.

Secondly, you got to have something nice occasionally, to just have a taste of a slightly, how do I say, better version of life. It is like an escape from our "mediocre" life.

Some collect art, some drink nice wine, and some smoke cigars. If watches are your thing, then just go for it.

I still remember when I started working, I saved up enough for my first "real grown-up watch", which, ironically, is a Tag Heuer. I'd regret it now since there are better watches for the same money, but at the time, it was the nicest and most valuable thing I had. It sounds funny to say, but it did motivated me to make more money, so that I can "afford" more stuff I like.

As I am a bit older and wiser, I don't need the materialist things to motivate me anymore, but still, if the younger me asks me whether he should save the money or buy the watch, I would say go for the watch, because I know I was that type of person. We all sort of are that kind of person when we were young.

Thanks for that yeah I will have to see where I’m at financially but the end of the year they say it’s better getting Omega second hand as they lose a lot of money once they leave the shop I’m not interested in selling them but if I can get the same watch cheaper all the better

·
Michael_adventure99

Yeah I don’t really know enough about the micro brands to know what to go for I don’t want to get stung paying over the odds of something with a cheap movement in it I’m always saving so one day I will get a omega as it’s one of my grail brands

One of the perks of being a part of this community is you can start a thread asking what the best micros with the best movements are at a specific price point and you can’t go wrong with the suggestions you’ll receive.

Don’t forget the hunt is the best part therefore… more hunting 😜

If the question is, to buy a expensive watch, or save for something else/more important later. Forget the watch. Dont harm yourself because. What would prevent you to buy the other thing first, and save up again for a watch? And why does it have to be an expensive watch like the Omega? You could find awesome watches for 1/3, 1/6 of the price. Take a good look at the Longines Conquest for example.

I heard that in Jackroad and Kame Kichi(龜吉) in Tokyo Japan, there are crazy prices for "second-hand" watches that are actually never worn. People sometimes receive watches as gifts from others and then just sell them at the second hand shop for real cheap price.

You can check out the stocks on their websites, but the store has more than the websites shows.

So, if you are not in a hurry and plan to visit Japan someday, you can nail two things with one trip, which is what I was thinking about......

I think it’s the last diver I will ever get because it’s blow me away with how light and thin it is and being 300m water resistant as well it’s not a chronometer great movement but it’s accurate enough for me and a 72hour power reserve or something like that

Those watches aren't much more than the cost of the service we need to get this year on my wife's Alfa! The Omega will be more reliable! I say get the blue AT shades (I'm partial because I just got one). It has nicer markers and I think will stand the test of time better.

Yeah that’s true

·

Wait six months/a year and see whether you still really want it - plus at that stage you might find a pre-owned model on which someone else has taken a hit on depreciation!

Omega going to keep putting out watches, finish your goal and get the watch later.
