What’s the chance to get mugged for an homage watch ?

Hello guys!

I’d be interested to try an homage watch, more precisely a Ranger homage one to test the style. But i’m not confident as I don’t own any expensive or big brand watches and i’ve eard many stories of violent robbing etc.

I’m often using train, public transportation and walking a lot in the street. Would it be safe to wear an homage as an everyday watch and not risk anything due to confusion ? Have you experienced bad situation due to your homage watch ?

Sorry if my question looks stupid and thank you very much :)

If it looks like an expensive watch you have the same chance of getting mugged. The thieves won't know it's an homage until long after you've regained consciesness.

The his is certainly in the news now. I think your likelihood of being mugged depends on geography, how you present yourself, situational awareness, and (bad) luck.

You are more likely to not get robbed, no matter how high your risk level is, than to get robbed.

Wearing a homage watch has to increase the likelihood slightly over a similar budget watch, but not as much as the real thing.

Pull out you homage pistol from Byrna...

I don’t think the Ranger puts you in any danger. It’s not typically the type of watch the thieves target. Especially not an homage version of it.

Thieves don't for watches, they look for easy targets.

As said above, maintain situational awareness. If you're in a dodgy situation, tuck your watch under your sleeve. Make it so, if given the choice, a criminal would choose someone else over you.

These kind of crimes are being hyped in the news, but I don't think you have to be on high alert (also, if you walk into a situation thinking about how the thing on your wrist is worth stealing, someone will pick up on that.) Just be confident and stay safe.

I blame the absolute inability for most of us to escape the 24/7 hype train that is the news cycle.

I AM NOT SAYING THEFTS ARENT UP. Our awareness of them has increased thousand fold.

Everyone, everywhere is concerned due to the constant #news we all have access too, regardless of location. Sex, sadness, and violence sell and get clicks. That coupled with AI tailoring your news/click bait ads from Google equals an almost oppressive amount of #bad$#it that "Could happen to you, be warned..."

Pay attention to your surroundings, don't go to dive bars with the Gold Rollie at 0100, stay in populated/lit areas, etc.

If someone does try to rob you, comply. Nothing is worth your life. Then run like mad out of the area.

Last resort would be self defense, and if that's the case, and they intend you great harm, I believe this guy said it best,

Same chance as wearing the original

·

If it’s close enough to the original, then it’s the same risk.
