Engagement watch?

Did you get an engagement watch? Maybe a watch you wore for your wedding? Did you buy a watch for your wedding or simply pick one from your current collection and call it your wedding watch? I'd love to hear your stories!

@MarcusEDC my Nixon 42-20 Tide was the first watch I ever bought and the watch that I wore to my wedding. I’ve since amassed a collection consisting of citizens, seikos, bulovas, Nixons, and a Speedy. But I don’t care if I one day own a Vacheron Constantin, this will forever be my first love. September will be my 10 year wedding anniversary and I plan on wearing it for our festivities.

I'm in the engagement ideation phase and I had similar thoughts recently. I wouldn't get an engagement watch, I'd rather put that money to use towards an experience that she and I could share. As for the wedding watch, it would be the one she gifted me that got me started in this crazy hobby: the Mission to Saturn.

Good ideology man! I only even bring it up because she's brought up the idea of a watch, chain, pair of boots etc that I could go to work with, or be on my own with that's a gift from her symbolizing that milestone. Got me thinking, and I like the thought of passing down my engagement watch one day!

That's a good idea, too, she sounds like a keeper!

My girlfriend give me my IWC pilot chronograph as an engagement present 😀 it's a good mexican tradition and she knew I liked that model, but for my wedding maybe I'll buy a rolex explorer 1 40mm, I think although its a "Professional" tool watch, its clean and could be a dress watch for me at 32 years, what do you think?

·

My wife gifted me the GS SBGE253 I had my eye on right before we got married, and right before I was gonna pull the trigger on it. And right on time for me to wear it on the Day.

·

I didn't even know engagement watches were a thing when I got engaged.

In fact, the entire wedding cost less than than a Black Bay 58!

I love the idea of the explorer as the wedding watch! So versatile. Although I'd go for the 39mm.

Tbh I didn't know that was a mexican tradition tell me more. Im mexican and should know this😂

Grand seiko seems to be a popular wedding watch. Congrats!

I wore a rose gold Michael Kors watch on my wedding day 7.5 years ago! Why? Because 1) my grandfather for who I am named gave it to me, and 2) it was the most expensive watch I owned at the time! 😂 😂 I never wear it anymore but will always keep it in memory of my grandpa and my wedding day!

My wife got me this tag when we got engaged and I wore it on my wedding day as well. We were both students, so it was a very extravagant purchase at the time.

I wore this Tommy Hilfiger that my wife got me as a pre-wedding gift

Yup, well technically somewhere in between engagement and marriage but regardless. My dream watch was a Cartier, the Calibre to be honest but hindsight this was the better pick I think in the end. Just many more interesting details now that I know more about watches.

Wife also bought me this when we were dating.I had on a fake Cartier at the time (I was young) so I guess a step up from that.

love that!

jaja well, I don't know if this traditions are in general en México or more in Jalisco where I am from, but some traditions are that the boyfriend buys the engagement ring and the girlfriend give him a watch of approximately the same price, another tradition is that the father of the bride pays the wedding, but as all traditions, some are lost or people just can't keep doing them, more in this modern world with such high prices.

i did just help a buddy who is first generation pick out an engagement watch before his wedding last year. i never thought of it being tradition or cultural but i'll have to ask about that.

·

We should promote the engagement watch as a tradition all around the world! I think it's a very good detail from the bride to give it as a gift.

·
MarcusEDC

glad that worked out! May I ask what happened to the crown?

Watch was 20 years old at the time I bought it. Stem snapped probably just due to age one day whole changing the date.

·

I wasn't into watches yet when I got engaged/married and there were plenty of other items stretching our wedding budget. I certainly remember that my wife bought a nice fashion watch for her wedding outfit. The watch is long gone, but the awful customer experience remains memorable (the sales assistant told me "so mum has bought a nice watch, hasn't she?" - imagine my fiancée's reaction...). Now I'm looking forward to a 25th anniversary watch.

·

Did not have an engagement watch. For my wedding I wore my Nomos Tangente neomatic.

·

I'm not even in a relationship, but I own my wedding watch already. It'll be the same as my graduation and retirement watch. You just can't beat sentimental value.
