The King Seiko SPB283J1

Do Seiko do any outside market research?
that’s a question I’d love them to answer when it comes to modern engines they make for their own watches.

I am a big Seiko Fan but it seems they are over valuing their movements to the point where we are being put off by the new releases!

I was excited about the release of the non limited edition King Seiko revival to start with but was I at the end of the review?

I agree with your good self, sir! Seiko really shot themselves in the foot with this reissue, putting a mediocre movement into a watch that was once renowned for its MOVEMENT alone. As a collector of vintage Seikos, I feel that this reissue really misses the mark. King Seikos used to beat the Swiss at the Chronometer trials, not to mention one upping their sister Grands! Come on, Seiko! They really are becoming the epitome of one's worst enemy 🥺😡🤧

Yeah Russ, it's really a shame they could've have put something more worthy of the king Seiko name in that watch. Really breaks the hearts of the real fans 😞

Absolutely  Max! The king is the pinnacle ! So why not put the pinnacle in there!? The problem is they have over valued there 6L movement in my opinion . It’s a rival to an SW200 . 6L in there at that price and it’s just about justified ! Oh and regulate the movement!!!!

If it had a 700 euro MSRP and I could get it at a discount, well... No, not even then. It's a horribly under-engineered 6R movement with a badly outdated Spron hairspring, which makes Seikos the usual suspects for landing up magnetized on watchmakers' benches way more often than the lowest grade Sellitas.

And of course there's the butterfly clasp, literally the worst bracelet locking system ever created.

The EU MSRP is 1700 euro. That's not even a "no" for this one. It's a solid "**** no!"

Great vid Russ. Yeah this reissue is a damn shame because they got so much right with the design but have undeniably cut corners with the movement. Get a better engine in there and swap the butterfly for a standard clasp and I'd be chomping at the bit to buy one. Sadly I don't think Seiko gives a stuff about what we think.

They apparently increased the MSRP to 1.800 Euro now. That's really crazy. 😕

Yeah, there are plenty of better watches that money can buy. Seiko became even worse value for even more money. I've lost all interest in them.
