Orient Mako 40

Since they fixed that pretty amazing dial error that plagued this line when it was first released, I decided it was time. The watch absolutely lives up to Orient’s solid reputation of affordable quality. Gorgeous dial, hands, and markers that really play with the light in fascinating ways, sapphire crystal, screw down crown, 200m water resistance, 20mm lug width. Orient absolutely nailed it.

Great looking watch from Orient. Wish it had a real lume pip on the bezel though.

I got the black one. The dial has a grainy texture and a discreet brown sunburst effect under direct light. However mine has the bezel slightly misaligned and very stiff - it softens a bit after continuous movement, but stiffens back after some time. And the crown is slippery. Aside that, for 220$ that I paid, it is a great watch.

I found this watches dimensions very odd. I bought the white dial one online and found the dial is very small for the overall case dimension which also played oddly in relation to the substantial case thickness. I found that in hand it seemed different from its photos. I ended up returning it.

Great looking watch. My bezel has pretty smooth motion and seems aligned properly. Maybe I just got lucky.

Interesting. It’s pretty in line with a lot of popular divers out there and is following the trend of smaller watches. I have a Seiko 5 gmt, which is basically a gmt diver style watch. It’s 42mm but with a pretty tight overall lug-to-lug. I can pull off 42mm since I have bigger wrists but I feel like 40 is kind of the sweet spot for me. The smaller dimensions were one of the selling points from my view.

If I didn't already own a Kamasu, I would have bought one in a heartbeat. What a stunning release from Orient. ❤️

What's really odd is that I replaced it with the Baltic Aquascaphe which is only 39mm and is thinner than the Orient but the baltic bezel was thinner which freed the dial to be bigger and have more presence. I also feel that photos don't get across how deep the dial appears to be sunken into the watch. If you have a tough time finding a retailer in your local area to try one on, I suggest finding a Tudor retailer to try on the BB58 and BB54. If you love the size of the BB54, this is the watch for you. If you like the size of the BB58, this is not for you.

Try a drop or two of machine oil

in between the gap of the bezel n the case... Should help mate. 😊

Tried both with water and some lubricant. It had no effect whatsoever, or maybe the fluid did not even reach the friction area.

Try not to use water mate, use machine oil only. Seep a few more drops around all the edges n let it sit for a while. Then slowly turn the bezel to spread the oil internally... Hopefully that helps. 😁
