Rolex should win this. Ultimately JLC may be more impressive by certain rubrics, and those rubrics may be more impressive according to a third rubric that weighs being the “watchmaker’s watchmaker” more heavily than being a brand that your bus driver knows about , but I have never actively wanted any JLC (I’d love a black dial perpetual calendar, but I don’t yearn for it). Whereas Rolex has several models that are just gorgeous and frankly I think every collection should have a Rolex (the king of sports watches IMO) and I don’t feel the same way about JLC. Just my 2 cents. This is the issue JLC has - but also for their biz there’s an argument that they are doing exactly what they want to be doing and don’t aspire to be a volume machine like Rolex.
Good argument for Rolex, but JLC has my heart. This is a sentimental hobby, after all.
