Is it fake

I bought this two-tone rolex Datejust with a Buckley dial at the end of 2022.

After having it for a day or two somthing didn't seem right, it came with a card, no box except for its box carton.

The registration number didn't match with the watch, and the date on the card for the original perches was 2019, and the number for the movement is 1601 which I thin  is for a 1974 vintage rolex!

It also has a new strap and glass so you can understand my confusion mabey it has been serviced? I'm so confused

Well, to be honest, it doesn't look great.  Date wheel looks wrong, crown looks wrong.  The glass seems to be sitting very high but I don't have a vintage datejust next to me to compare.

Plus the card not matching the case would suggest that, at the very least, the card was faked.  I have known people to add mismatched cards to ostensibly genuine watches to boost the price but generally a mismatched card speaks to a much larger trust problem.

You said it was a four digit rolex reference?

First number is a 3 picture isn't very good I have to the end of the month to get a refund

If it's a legit piece, and I'm not sure that it is (the lume on the hands does not look consistent with the dial), at a minimum it is not a 2019 vintage piece.  The "T Swiss T" indicates the use of Tritium paint, which ceased in the late 90s as radioactive paints were fully phased out and superluminova was introduced.

Rolex 1601s typically had "Swiss" as opposed to T Swiss T (though it could just be a service dial).

The date wheel is mismatched colorwise (which is odd for rolex of this era).  the crown has two dots while I'm pretty sure the 1601s had a solid line.  They're both twinlock crown types but I don't think the datejusts of that era used the two dot crowns.  Others could weigh in more accurately.

I wouldn't say fake (I'm genuinely not certain) but I'm pretty sure not all the parts are original and could have been replaced either as part of a rolex service or a franken provess.

Plus the inauthentic papers worry me.

I'd probably return it and save myself the headache.

The card is definitely fake I think I need to get it open to look at the movement

This is a Buckley dial I found on Google it looks the same

Sure, but I think that's probably a 5 digit reference Buckley dial not a four digit like your case suggests.

At the end of the day, you don't need to convince me. It's not my watch. I would just hate for you to feel uncomfortable with the watch that you purchased.

Your probability right

I'm no Rolex expert, nor vintage expert, but off the bat I noticed the lume on hands, and lume pip at 8 doesn't match with the tritium patina of the rest of the watch. Could have been replaced at service and relumed.

Good luck with your examine.

Thanks for all your help and constructive criticism, it give me lots to think about  you are all legends 😊

Don't know if this helps

May we ask how much you paid for it? This is usually an important piece of evidence.

·

I'm with cometman the hands have the wrong colour patina and also the lume pip at 9 doesn't look centre on the marker,I've bought watches without papers ,but they have been from a reputable local dealer ,you usually pay less for the watch but if your keeping it no worries

When in doubt, back out.

If you can get a refund,do it ASAP.

·

Yikes. I'd return it. It's all messed up. Hopefully its not from tuscanyrose 😆

The price was dropped from £4,850 to £2,700 over the months before Christmas
