I am looking at the Zulu Time 39 too! I tried Delugs on my other watches. I think you can give them a try.

And may I ask how long does it take for the date to change? I heard it takes 26 minutes after midnight.

Hi Watchfam may I ask a question about the Longines Zulu Time? I heard the date wheel changes 26 minutes after midnight. May I ask if is that true? Bc the AD sales didn't really answer my question and all the watches are always in plastic wraps.

You're right Samdeatton! These negatives aren't that noticeable once you got it on the wrist.

As a Gen Z, a few of my friends who love watches had faced a similar situation. One day, a rich friend asked us whether he should get a Submariner with no date.

He has the Explorer 16750 white dial passed along from his dad (while his dad still got the aluminium Pepsi). He told us he love the 16750, but he thinks it's time to get into the modern Rolex. His financial background, purchase histories and family background certainly can get him a submariner.

But you know what me and my friends told him? We said, "Dude the sub is so 公廁, forget it" ("公廁" exact meaning is Public Toilet in Chinese. But in Cantonese, the word can also mean something so common/trendy that's boring and repulsive. It also a slang.). Walking in the street of HK you can see most ppl have that Sub on their wrist.

I think to younger watch enthusiasts, we are slowly losing interest in Rolex. Sure, it's a brand that you can earn money just by being "allocated. But, those "common" Rolex are just... so boring. Gen Z wants something unique. And I saw some YouTubers say the new Balloon OP and DayDate make them excited because it's targeting Gen Z now! ERRRRRMMMM hi, do you think Gen Z customers can even GET one (In line with what Mr George Bamford from About Effing Time thinks) ? I wanted the Palm Dial to celebrate my graduation success. However, despite the AD having at least 3 palm dials on display. They still told me twice that "Sorry, we don't have stocks". And also consider the irony of "entry-level" OPs are just not gonna be available to "Younger-clients" anyways.

A HK YouTuber (linked below, although in Cantonese only) proposed his own POV. That the new OP and puzzle DayDate are targeting "High-end" spenders, especially younger "high-end" spenders rather than the General Gen Z population. Which = kids with a silver spoon.

And as my good friend told our rich friend: "There are a lot more options than Rolex. Forget the money man. If you want prestige, Cartier can offer you that. But if you really want something you can love it. Get a look at Grand Seiko." Despite my friends praising the quality of Rolex (that they got from their dads). I doubt I can be convinced when it seems hard for the young/me (fresh grads who worked a few years) to get into Rolex (much less be loyal to it). And honestly, why spend that Grey Market price money? When you can spend those elsewhere?

And yup Max. AD price Rolex is a way to earn fast money in HK (and around the World). Just look at the amount of Lefty Sprites popping up at 2nd hand stores like "Brand Off". If you need to earn that fast money, sure accept that Call. But if you're already well-off, nah. Buying Rolex is with our heads, playing Rolex is with our hearts. But sorry, Rolex ain't the Crush now.

In my opinion, without considering the price. It is a solid watch, especially for someone (like me) who has a small wrist (5.5"). The bezel action is surprisingly better than other Seiko 5 or even higher-end 4R movement Seiko divers.

But there are interesting design choices or cut corners:

  1. Look closely and you can see the color of the hands and the indices are different. The hands are more yellow-ish, while the indices are white.

  2. The bracelet...... is hollow, it rattles and squeaks (but tbh its almost the same quality of 20 years old 5 digit Rolexes)

  3. The dial is actually sunburst, but you really won't notice it unless in harsh sunlight.

  4. The clasp is longer than what I like. Meant that it doesn't fit as well as an Alpinist clasp does on my wrist.

WOW thanks everyone's great encouragement and comments! I'm beginning to find my own style in watches. Although I still float between awesome cool dials and awesome cool watches (like the new Longines 39 Zulu Time). I think as time goes on, my taste will change too.

What my collection won't change isn't the beautiful dials I got. But the memories I instil into these watches.

I do see how to watch taste changes now. Like how I always make fun of my dad of loving his two-tone Tudor Oyster Prince as "old-school" and boring. Now he got a solid >10 different (mostly seiko) watches that are modern looking! (Probably influenced by me!)

[Though, my mum wasn't too happy when looking at the money we spent 😂 (its all within our budget), but at least she's happy we're happy! And she's here to help rein in our irrational brains when every time there is a new watch released!]

Well said! Yes I do! But its heartbreaking to see how the sequel movies by Disney went down. At least we have our Star Wars God Dave Falloni to save the day for now!
