The Lorier Astra is a game-changer for me…

Until recently, I was only considering watches from established heritage brands. I was skeptical that I could develop a deep, lasting connection with a brand that has only been around for a few years.

But something clicked for me when I saw and tried on this Lorier Astra at the District Time watch show — particularly once I learned about the signature lumed ring feature on the dial.

For some time I have been looking for an understated do-it-all watch with classic proportions that can be worn in any situation. This was a challenge because I wanted it to be elegant enough for formal events, but affordable and durable enough for swimming and travel, etc.

Well after learning more about the great story and design philosophy of Lorier, and scouring the watch market for potential alternatives under $1k, I quickly came the conclusion that the Astra was IT for me.

It arrived yesterday only a few weeks after I put in a pre-order, and I am absolutely elated with the quality, fit, and overall aesthetic of this watch!

Curious what your wrist size is? I’m sort of in the same boat, looking for something that works as a sport watch bubalso good for all occasions. Hamilton khaki 38, CW sealander dune black is an option too.

I have a 7.5cm / 7" wrist. I find the combination of 100M water resistance, threaded crown, svelte size, and refined elements like the beveled applied markers really make the Astra so versatile. The Khaki and Dune are great options, but I think both are a bit lacking on the dressy/formal end of the spectrum.

I think you are spot on there. I have a 17cm wrist and am worried about the really long lugs fitting seamlessly.

44mm lug to lug is pretty reasonable for most wrists, and these lugs do curve downward and taper inward to a nice point. It also has a slim case profile and female end links on the bracelet, so all of these things point to it wearing well on smaller wrists. I will say that the watch does wear a bit larger than the 36mm case dimension would suggest, perhaps closer to a 38mm watch. So I would compare it to other watches around that size in terms of how it looks on wrist -- to me at least.

I really appreciate your advice. Can you send a pic down the wrist showing the curve on your wrist?

Sure, fits like a glove. It really just melts nicely into the wrist.

Looks great - it's a really good looking watch. Quite a mature release from Lorier I reckon. I'm hoping for a black / gilt dialled variant.

Looks so good. Still feel like it works well in most situations, equally dressy and casual? I love how it looks but wonder if it’s dressier than expected.

It does lean a bit dressy much like the mid-century sport watches that inspired it. But the white monochrome color scheme, 100M water resistance, threaded crown, solid lume, and all-brushed bracelet make the Astra understated and more than capable in casual or outdoorsy situations. I can attest that IMHO it looks nearly as at home in a flannel or hoodie as it does in a sport jacket.
