Have you seen this watch?

I rescued this watch from a previous owner who never took much care of it. It has a Seiko kinetic movement but I don't really know much about it. You can clearly feel there's a rotor inside, but it seems it charges a battery of some sort?

It seems to have been discontinued in 1999 and from the serial number I believe this particular model's from 1997.

If anyone knows anything about this watch, I'd love to hear it!

I need to get one for my collection.

The Nekkid Watchmaker did a restoration on one you might find interesting.

Can't tell you much about that specific watch, but I've had a couple of kinetics over the years, and yes your right there's a rotor like on a mechanical watch which charges the battery (capacitor they call it,basically a tiny rechargeable battery ) which powers a quartz movement. It does look like a late 90s model. Look it up on Google if you get no joy on here, there's plenty of info out there. It's a nice looking watch, they are very reliable but if it stops or you get the 2 second tick it will need a new battery/capacitor (not a normal battery) which can be bought off the web for about £15. Hope this helps a little.

The pusher at 2 is for power reserve indication, when you push it the seconds hand will indicate the power level stored in the capacitor.

The main problem with the kinetics is keeping them charged.  They need to be worn quite a bit to keep the charge level up.  I use an induction charger to keep mine charged since I never wear it enough to keep it charged.  The worst thing you can do with one of these is to let it run down or let it stay without a charge for long periods of time, it kills the capacitor.
