Does anyone know if GS does bespoke work?

A dear friend of mind that has recently gotten bitten by the Horology bug asked me this question. I checked the website but there doesn't seem to be any clues to that.

Most brands will do bespoke if you have enough money, but for the larger brands it’s who you are and who you know and those that do, generally don’t share them. For the average person, it is unlikely to get a bespoke GS.

So theoretically, if said friend is the type to have crazy stupid money, it would be more about lobbying the right person at the GS studio to hear him out?

Or you can customize your GrandSeiko by sending to watchmaker or engraving artisans 😬

Did not even think of that! Long story short, my friend's fiancee is a Japanese artist that focuses on traditional autumn themed crafts. He wanted to surprise her with bespoke His/Her GS watches. But that is an intriguing thought!

In theory sure. As @Chinshandcraft said, best to find a craft person to modify an existing one.

For the right price, I’m sure they will.

Yep, Grand Seiko has a bespoke watch program. There’s a bar at their Wako flagship store in Ginza that caters specifically to making a custom watch. It’s a fun visit (same applies to the whole store) even if you can’t afford it.

And it’s not something I could afford, as it’s SUPER expensive, because they only do custom watches in precious metals.

This Watch Spirits video has a big section on the custom Grand Seiko program:

I believe Credor and micro artist studio does some bespoke, but it’s pretty limited in what you can choose.

The GS bespoke studio in Wako is a best bet. But believe it’s only men’s watches?

Some awesome options are available. I didn’t ask the price but was tempted. Pics from 2nd floor :

Minase is another possibility, with incredible lacquer dials and cases.

Being a small manufacturer (who makes their own cases dials and bracelets) they might be amenable and agile enough to make something by request. Urushi and Maki-e dials by a master of the art.

Probably, but you would have to either be of very high status or have a shit load of money. Most likely both.

I love Minase. I was planning on purchasing their Hakose Window but just bought an Itay Noy to support the homeland. I think I will save up a bit more myself to get a bespoke urushi dial from them. Something Yōkai related.

Had never heard of Itay. Looks fantastic, and love that you support a local artist. His designs are unique and stunning. If I may - what price range? How do you like it?

Yokai- Brilliant idea 💡!

Which yokai??? 😃.

Was thinking of something very extravagant and difficult such as a scene of a “night parade”
