Miami - Zenith Defy Extreme Mirror

Image

Like the Defy Extreme Mirror, Miami prides itself on its brash loudness that it has honed to a legendary level. The Defiance Extreme Mirror has an unabashed mirror shine applied to every element of the watch , just as Miami has unabashedly positioned itself as the new hub of wealth and ambition in the US.

I'll add a South African flair to this.

My hometown of Fochville can only be my Camy Club-Star. Simple, not really the best at anything, but packed with soul (and idiots.)

Sandton is the Hublot Classic Fusion chronograph. A watch designed for people who think they're a Boeing 747, but are closer to microlight territory. Sandton is full of these people and if it didn't have all of the country's watch boutiques, I'd avoid it like the plague. Maybe it's a bad sign that I kind of like it.

Word is it was promptly bought by an Al-Thani family distant aunt's cousin and "revitalized" by having diamonds stamped on it

Tudor black bay bronze for my hometown, Prato.

First, Tudor cause we also live sooo close to a gigantic, posher, classier cousin, Florence. Blue is traditionally the color of our city. Bronze cause it looks a bit like gold but has the lower-class worker vibe. You can get your hand dirty with a bronze case, and even make it better, but you wouldn’t rise a finger when sporting a gold watch. I’d probably add a recicled fabric strap made by our (once) popular textile industries.

San Francisco - Apple Watch

Image

I'm lambasting my home town only because I love The City deeply and want it to be better than it is now. Maybe it's just my nostalgia and living through rose tinted glasses. This is why I chose the Apple Watch. Ok, bring on all the sad face emojis now, and cue the arguments whether or not it's watch or not.

The Apple Watch represents pushing the boundaries of technology and is a melting pot of a whole set of things all in one. It's different things to different people and polarizing. It's San Francisco...all in a tiny square box that everyone wears on their wrists.

Zurich, Switzerland - IWC Portugieser Chronograph - Reference IW371605

Reason: on the first look it’s a simple watch, almost boring but the complexity lays beyond the surface. The watch is not flashy and screams about money. In Switzerland you don’t talk about or show money, you simply have it. And the white and blue color scheme is the same as the flag of Zurich.

Manhattan - the markers are supposed to resemble the tall buildings of the Manhattan skyline viewed through the portrait aspect of the case.
