The oddity is that the 222 sold very poorly and faded into obscurity without notice. When Vacheron was revitalized, the Overseas Gen 1 was made with very similar design language, and that watch failed to catch on as well. The market is quite fickle!
I remember the wonderful days, not too long ago, when you could walk into a shop and reward yourself with a spontaneous purchase. Seems that much of the joy has been sucked out of the process. I've walked into shops with full cases and they say, "nothing is for sale". Grey market buyers buy entire inventories, and the manufacturers allow it.
