Sentimental Watches

Most of us have a watch in our collection that  has little financial value, but massive sentimental value. Mine is this old Nivada that my Dad got when he was 13. It had been largely destroyed with a broken lug and a smashed glass - but I had the privilege of getting it restored and giving it to him again 22 years ago for his 63rd birthday. Now - it is a memory and connection that has more meaning to me than all other watches in my collection.

what is your sentimental watch and story?

Great story.

I have a couple of watches that have sentimental value to me.

The first one is the Timex Indiglo that I keep to remind me of my dad, who passed away in 2013. He wasn't interested in watches, and always wore an inexpensive Timex. The one I have is the one he was wearing when he passed away. I keep it in my watch box, and every night before I go to bed, I turn on the Indiglo light for a couple of seconds  as a way of helping keep his memory alive.

I also have a Seiko Memory Bank Calendar watch that my wife had purchased for me as an engagement present back in 1980, well before I had any interest in watches other than as a means of telling the time. I wore a cheap digital watch prior to this, and thought that this was just the coolest thing I had ever seen. I wore that as my only watch for several years.

I think that I have mentioned my sentimental watch here before it's one that my late Grandmother gave me when I was a teenager many years ago...I now have her watch which I restored and serviced the one that she gave to me.

I had Cameron Weiss and Weiss Watch Co. build out one of his Standard Issue Field Watches for me and engrave my father’s birth/death dates on it. He delivered it on the 1 year anniversary of my dad’s passing and this piece will never leave the collection.

Enjoyed the story! I definitely have some sentimental pieces from my wife and only wish my father had a shared appreciation for watches. I tell myself that it’s something that I’ll definitely try and impart to my future children should I be so lucky 🙂

I have a Tissot Seastar that was passed down to me by my father. A period it was my daily wearer and it had some beating. Now I don’t wear it much. I realised that it is one of very few material things I have from him and take better care of it.
