Full Service Seiko SKX007 Diver

On the bench today this lovely SKX Diver from 2017.

On arrival it was running fast and on the timegrapher it was a screen of snow.

So what did I find well it was last serviced in April 2021 and it has been over oiled the oil had migratEd throughout the escapement and onto the hair spring so after a good clean re assembly and correctly oiled this Diver is all good to go for another 10 years or so.

A word of warning if you dicide to service a 7S26 movement do not remove the top plate jewel springs and jewels unless you want to fight with them for up to two hours getting them back in place.

Also did a full case clean with new gaskets.

Barring a "labor of love", I didn't think that it was economically sound to service a 7s26 movement when it could be replaced (and updated) with a 4r36.

I‘ve recently updated my older SKX007 with a NH36 but this one is only going on 5 years old so the movement is well worth a service yes a labor of love for me only cost to me is a gasket set and some time at the bench

I dunno... from a collectors point of view, isn't it a waste to remove the original movement and replacing it with the nh36.

It's like removing its soul 😂

I envy the ability to do this. It would honestly change the way I collect.

Thanks my hobby is to mainly save vintage Seiko divers. When you can fix or service a watch you can take a few risks when buying or collecting

It's a great skill to have. That last picture you have of the various tiny components literally makes me feel faint! I would lose something vital for sure!

You do occasionally loose the odd tiny part or screw but it’s just part of the journey luckily the watches that I work on it’s relatively easy to get spare parts I’ve got a few movements and parts stored away over the years that come in handy when things go flying
